If you track the car, most likely these cat's won't last. I was going to buy some catted high flow headers for my old Cayman, and Soul Speed told me aftermarket cat's don't last with track driving. Either go OEM or go catless. Not only that but what gains do these give? I bet is is inconsequential.

I won't be tracking my car and its for street use only. From the research I've done, I should get some hp gain. the reason I'm going with catted is for the smell and louder noise. If possible ill try to get a dyno. below is a comment from another form lol Get a catless DP if: - You don't care if you get pulled over - You want the HP gains - You don't mind the smell - You want the sound Get a catback DP if: - You want to get as much HP while complying with smog regulations - You don't want any smell __________________ Last edited by fastlanedriver; 04-20-2020 at 11:39 AM.. |

For me, cat-less isn't worth it. I don't believe the difference would be that substantial. But totally understand, sustained heat and WOT runs would eventually destroy the catalytic converter. |

I'd be careful about downpipes with cats that are not hjs/other top quality ones
I say this because the primary aftermarket cat of my E90 M3 melted and took the engine out. You can be sure I will not make that mistake twice If the cat collapses it may block the exhaust, screwing up the head/valve steam seals and you always have the possibility of the engine 'eating' a piece of cat and dying. Losing an engine is a huge PITA and very expensive.

I believe the stock is 600ish cell count but the one I purchased has a 200cell count. Either way, I'll be trying to get my car dyno'd before and after to help people figure out of catted is worth it. I use my car for work and pleasure so that was a factor of going catted route.

You won't pass inspection / emissions with these either. Honestly I am kind of surprised people are considering these over factory downpipes. The OEM downpipe design is very well designed. Sure there is a cat right at the beginning of the downpipes, but they flow very well. These are a downgrade IMO. Either go catless if you really want DP's or stay OEM. I currently have catless CTS, but will be going back to OEM once my emissions test comes up in September, and will be deleting the secondary cats instead.

Quick update, I received my catted on Friday and had it installed yesterday. I know everyone has an opinion on straight vs catted but I'm happy with the outcome. I had a local shop install it for 250. I'm guessing installation wasn't hard because he finished in under 2 hours.
sound is great, much louder than my stock dp, also I don't notice any gas smell. I will have to adjust the burble now because it's loud as hell. Most will say just go straight pipe but I don't regret getting my catted turner dp. I'll try to get a dyno and also some videos. I've heard if you you install mini cat 02 sensor you'll pass. I should have done that before installation but I was excited to get this installed |

I ordered these 2 months ago and tried installing them myself in the garage using jack stands as I've done down pipes many times on prior cars. Raising the engine mount to get them in was pretty simple just using a floor jack, but once I got them in, I was unable to align them properly to connect to the mid pipe. Spent a couple of hours trying every which way possible and came to the conclusion that the model used to manufacture them might have been off so I removed them and sent them back for a full credit. Ended up going with the AA catless instead and those fit great. I was excited to try the Turner DPs because they are catted and price was great, but they didn't work for me. I followed the instructions Turner provided and have DIY experience, so I'm confident it wasn't user error. I'm glad to see that others have tried them and we're able to get them installed properly.

Wow I wish I saw this earlier! Have just spent the last two days trying to fit them to my M2 Competition, really disappointed that I kept running into one issue after another. I had the car up on jack stands but I could't get a jack high enough to get the engine mount up, so I had to buy a bottle jack and stack a few weight plates underneath. Once I got the down pipes through the gap I ran into any other issue with the heat shield blocking the fitting to the turbo, I was pretty annoyed by this point so I pulled out the heat shield and got a hammer View post on imgur.com View post on imgur.com So 2 days waisted I finally get the V-Clams on both downpipes and I now run into the issue of them not lining up properly View post on imgur.com Anyways I think I might have gotten your downpipes Fishsticks haha because I picked them up for half price on ECS as a scratch and dent item. I'm based in Australia so the shipping was about $125 and I might be stuck with them as I might not be able to return them. Last edited by tubstar; 05-24-2020 at 09:13 AM.. |
