Like others I didn't like all the dust of the oem pads. So after reading the forums I ordered the Power Stop Z16 ceramic pads. They were low dust and stopped decent, they squealed like a MF'r though. After bedding twice and re applying pad grease twice, they still squealed no matter the temp or car direction. I called power stop and the guy said that's not normal and encouraged me to send them back to Rock Auto. While on the phone with power stop, he asked why didn't I go with the Z23 carbon fiber/ceramic pad. He said it's a street sport pad with low dust and better stopping than the ceramic. So I ordered and gave them a shot. These pads come with new hardware and pad grease. I installed and bedded per the instructions. After a week of driving there's no squealing, much improved initial bite. I would say they're about 90% of the oem pad as far as initial bite. As far as dust? Not even measurable! This pad gives me the stopping power and very low dust, with no brake noise. In the first pic, the top pad is the oem, 2nd pad are the ceramics, and the 3rd is the CF/ceramic Z23 pad. The Z23-1656 are the rear pads and the Z23-1609 are the front pads. Hope this helps anyone else with the same dilemma as me. Rock Auto has them for $78 shipped.

God dammit. I just went with Powerstop ceramics last month and had no idea this version existed. Mine squeal embarrassingly loud when it's cold or wet, regardless of bedding or anti-squeal gel.

I'm in the same boat with the Z16's, squealing like a champ. Today they even started squealing after they were warmed up and when I hit the brakes to slow down from 110mph, which was terrible sounding. I did buy mine from Rock Auto and shot them an email, hope they'll take care of me. Did you by any chance look into the Z26 series?

Likewise - mine only squeal briefly when cold - maybe the first 2 or 3 stops at the most. I have tried left foot braking while I drive down the parking garage to mitigate this, but my left foot sucks on the brake pedal.

I have the Z16's now - anymore dust from the Z23's then the Z16's? Overall just a better experience? I have squealing from the rear when its cold out ( no paste on mine ) I was going to pull them out and put some paste on, but if the z23's are a better option I may just get the new pads

I appreciate the time taken to respond and provide pictures & feedback. Just ordered my set of the Z23's and will take the ($59) hit on the Z16's. Could be worse |

I've got the Z16's (greased backing) and only got the squeal once backing out on a damp day. I find the bite as good as OEM.

Thanks for the info!
I only get a couple squeals in the morning when backing out of my garage with the Z16s (especially now that it's colder out). However, I don't hear any noise from the brakes the rest of the day. I wonder if they changed something in the Z16 pad material/production...

I have the same pads on my 328d touring with m performance brake kit. I get really loud squeal in the morning and also when the brakes are not warm enough.

These are purely a street pad. I wouldn't track these. On a daily driver they're just as competent as the OEM's without all the dust.
