Options with M3cs after job went full time remote

Hey guys, so due to the crisis, my job has been moved to a full time remote role. I'm very happy about that, but at the same time I now have an M3cs that will be sitting in the garage for the majority of the time.

I absolutely love the car, but it's hard to justify when I really won't be driving it. That said, what are my options outside of posting it on lease trader? I'm about halfway through my 36 month lease so I doubt that BMW would terminate / re-assume it, or would they?

BMW likely will not terminate or reassume it. You can try to sell the car or have someone assume your lease.

Drive it every break you have! Make it your daily and "work remotely" at the track here and there. A few laps, respond to e-mail. Use virtual backgrounds and take video calls from car!

I just bought my car off a forum member who was 2 years into his lease (had to get a willing middle man dealer to buy the car and sell to me).

Easier option, potentially (need to have a buyer with prior auto loan history) is lease transfer

Why not just drive it around for fun or to get lunch?

My job is full remote and I still take my F82 for a drive to get lunch, grocery shop, etc.

What's the big deal? I have a 2012 M3 with 9000kms and a 2016 M4GTS with 5100kms. they are both sitting in my garage most of the time. While I daily drive my 2016 328d touring to the jobsite.

Just enjoy your car on the weekend.

You entered into a binding contract with BMW FS. No early termination of the agreement is a remote possibility. Unload it on swapalease, and offer 6 months of your insurance policy savings to sweeten the offer. How do you travel after work/weekends/out of town trips? Uber?

I agree with ya. I have a 2018 F83 and F85, both are leases, and one is always sitting in my garage. As I fly a majority of the time, one is in my garage and the other at the airport parking lot. Both are way under mileage, but I enjoy driving them both based on my mood. Sometimes both in the same day for a contrast.

To answer your question, i do think a lease assumption would be your only option. As others have said, there’s no reason for BMW to terminate a contract, particularly in these times when they most need the revenue. Although I’m sure you already know that they’ve offered to forgo some lease payments

That said, if you absolutely love the car, then why not keep it? Especially if you still need some kind of transportation to get around, run errands, etc. - wouldn’t it be more trouble to get rid of a car and get another car that you presumably will like less?

If you hate wasting miles that you’ve already paid for, then just drive the shit out of it in your free time. Or put it on Turo and let it pay for itself

Thanks for the advice gents, some great points made. Given the direction that BMW is going with their designs and the relative scarcity of the CS, I think I'm going to keep it awhile.

Good choice! I also work remote even before the whole covid situation. Find myself making excuses to drive places. “Oh I need to get more (random product) I’ll take the long way to a store” instead of just buying it online

It’s a lease so just track the sh1t out of it on the weekends.

Use it for drift school too for good measure.

You have an extremely limited / cool car that's under a lease (and prob a damn good one if you jumped in when I did). That said, drive the hell out of it when you can and enjoy. Worst case, you turn it in with lower miles than expected, nbd.

I'm in the same exact boat as you with my CS. Car is 1.5 years old and as new with 5k miles
