I was so disappointed in the new M3/4 I passed on the car. Interior was a step down in materials quality relative to the prior gen, and next to Audi it's several years behind (even my A3 rental car this week is better inside than the new M).
Combined with the poor exhaust sound and an exterior that is (subjectively) bloated and uninspiring, and I couldnt do it. I dont doubt that this new C63 will be quicker and faster than the M, as evidenced that the last model was tested and favored over the new M already. As you can tell, I am a long term, 5+ M3 owner, and so disappointed where the brand has gone, into soft, anonymous boredom, that I would even consider buying a Merc. (I opted for a 458 Italia for now to hold me over, but I do miss the TQ some of the sedans offer!). As for the interior pics of the new C63...WOW! Stunning interior, might be the best this side of Veyron. No F or Lambo looks as good inside. Stunning. Last edited by dustman; 09-23-2014 at 08:35 PM.. |

Dudes, this is saying a curb weight of only 1640kgs. Is a UK kg different than a German kg??
"The new model is lighter and stiffer than before. Merc quotes a kerbweight of 1640kg, compared with 1730kg for today's model. Thank the use of aluminium in key areas." http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/News/Se...-rod-unveiled/

One other point for clarity is that the P31 performance pack on the non-507 cars also included the same forged engine internals as the 507. The only engine difference is the tune. On that note, I am hard pressed to believe that the new engine is really better than the amazing 6.2l DOHC V8. There will almost certainly be some turbo lag and it is unlikely that power delivery will be as linear and predictable. Also, as I recall AMG listed the weight of the W204 as around 3,800 pounds, but when tested with the usual performance and luxury equipment, one magazine referred to it as "a secret fatty" coming in at almost exactly 4,000 pounds. Thus, even if the new car has lost 100 to 200 pounds, it is still 200 to 300 pounds overweight, particularly for 265 width tires. Us M3 and M4 owners can't put down the power with 275 width PSS. How can AMG possibly get decent traction with nearly an extra 100 lb-ft of torque, an extra 200 to 300 pounds and skinnier and less sticky tires (assuming AMG is still using Conti)? Nonetheless, I do look forward to seeing the test results as I find the car generally attractive. I am disappointed that there appears to be no 4-matic. That would at least help to justify the extra weight. |

i do LIKE the car, but i don't LOVE it .. i like a lot of the details on the interior/exterior (seats are "the business"), i agree that the vents look very "roadster" like and belong in a supercar or a spyker or something (along with the rest of the dash). i really don't like the rear end.. it looks like it melted and slumped down in the middle. that wagon would be awesome and i may have preferred that over the M3 for my 99% DD duties but i'm sure it's at least $10k more than the M3 and i'm already in love with this car and it hasn't gotten across the Atlantic yet … maybe next time i'll get a C63. i'm sure it'll be a great car overall and welcome competition in the segment … keeps the improvements coming! i too am predicting the w205 to be faster than the m (straight line, maybe even around some tracks, but we'll see) but a slightly less enjoyable/controlled experience unless tire smoke is all you're after. can't wait for the comparison tests … "the c63 is a nicer car to sit in, but the M3 is a better car to drive" |

I prefer the ///M interior to the new C63 overall. I like the C63 seats better but there is something about the C63 design I don't like... maybe it's the fake chrome accents and round vents everywhere. Subjective though for sure.
I can't wait to see one in person and reserve all judgement until said visit.

does not have dct. deal breaker for me. I think the zf 8 speed shifts faster and is more responsive than the 7 speed amg auto.

The thing I liked about sitting in the new C class this weekend was the size of the cockpit, or lack thereof. The f8x feels bigger inside than my e92 and I kind of like the "coziness" I don't know how better to describe it lol The materials of the new C were OK.. maybe I was expecting to be blown away by the press photos but there was still a lot of hard plastic to be seen; compared to a 328i it was a step-up, IMO. I'm curious to see how the c63's interior improves upon the base car, IRL. So far based on everything, the F8x is still looking to be my next car; we shall see.
