Any 2015 m3/m4 owners reprogram the rear differential?

Hi Folks

Has any of you reprogrammed/updated the rear differential software to the competition or newer software if that’s even a thing?

Just trying to keep my car updated as I hear people say the competition differential drives better as it’s just a software update. If so, where did you folks get it done and how much would it cost?

Thanks

Look up Thor and purchase that. You can program to either the CS or GTS level coding. Coded my 15 M4 to the CS level for diff, steering, traction control and DCT and it is well worth it.

Will do! I was planning on getting the BM3 tune given it’s the most popular choice with the least issues that I have read about. Not sure if I need Thor in that case if I get bm3 or should I be going Thor for tune too?

Definitely go BM3 for tuning the ECU. Thor is a separate system which tunes completely different systems for the diff, traction control, steering, and DCT. Thor uses the latest maps (oem, CS, and GTS) directly from BMW for all of those systems and is a similar flashing process to BM3.

I chose Alex@Alpine and he did a great 1-time coding job for a hundred bucks. This included all my interior/exterior coding as well as steering, dampers, rear diff and his Special "Alex" MDM (1 notch looser than Euro MDM). I'm a manual trans so no need for his DCT coding, but I hear it's great too. After my coding when I used BM3 all my coding changes stayed like I wanted.

You can DIY it with Thor, BimmerCode and the adapters, but that costs more. Upside here is you can change your mind or try different things over and over.

Yes - had Alex from Alpine do both my diff and DCT to GTS level prior to tuning. Over a year now, and so far, so good!

You can "tune" your diff, steering, and traction system with BimmerCode as well? Similar to Thor's dynamic package?? Or are you just referring to general coding

It would take both, not one or the other.

THOR flashes the software for those specific systems (steering, diff, traction control, DCT) with the most recent CS or GTS level maps. Coding is a completely different thing.

How do you get into contact with alex? Is he a vendor only via bimmerpost? Or does he have a website?

I think I might have to get the software updated by the dealership. Been reading too many issues with THOR.

Another for Alex @ alpine. He is great to work with, quick and efficient. Car as a complete package is ideal, so if you are coding the diff I would suggest having trans and ECU coded accordingly so it can all work in sync. If not, some complain with dct of jerkiness or what feels like slop.

I just flashed to the GTS map after buying the Thor Dynamic package in the Black Friday sale. The flashing process is very simple and quick. I’m putting down around 700rwhp and MDM is an issue. Initial impressions with the GTS map is MDM is not interfering as much and I can get the backend to slide around. I also added the GTS steering map and, TBH, can’t tell the difference!

Thor is dead, where to go now...

So Thor is dead in my understanding.

I see the bluetooth adapter still for sale but the app is dead, at least in the US.

I would love to get that functionality, especially the rear diff, steering and MDM coding. Is there another option?

Maybe it is reaching out to Alex mentioned earlier on this thread.

Sorry for reviving the dead, but searches on this topic seem to have died off last year.

Thanks
Russ
