Thanks!
BMW are free to do whatever they want .

Note that what comes standard, "packages" and offered options are defined by the local BMW distribution (BMW USA in your case).

Yea generally as the Model ages more items that were initially sold as options/packages are included as standard. At least that is what I have always observed. While BMW USA (in case of USA) may make these determinations, probably someone in Germany has to give the thumbs up I'd imagine. Regardless, one benefit of waiting a few years for a new model is that you will invariably get more for your money in terms of options and packages. Many will be included as standard, and the packages you do pay for will be more robust and include more.

Agreed. I'm fully expecting them to lower the price of the Lighting package or make the LED's standard. Makes no sense that it's under $1k for the F30 LCI but almost double for the M3/4

The better question is why are the full LED lights on the LCI 3-series a different price than on the M3/M4. Since the M3/M4 share the same headlight design as the 4-series, that is the appropriate comparison, and they're priced the same.

Maybe the 4er/M3/M4 full LED lights are more sophisticated/better than the ones you can get as an $800 option on the LCI 3er?

Oh yeah, I am well aware of the additions to the standard options as the model ages through its lifecycle. I was just wondering about the timeline of an announcement in March for the current production cycle vs. something later for the next production cycle after June.

Anyway, I get it. It is just speculation at the moment. I guess it is just a game of wait and see.

Thanks!

The only possible thing they could include in the competition package that would make me want to upgrade is the water injection system.

Yes Comfort Access, Satellite Radio, and HK audio became standard items in 2016 MY, but the price went up slightly!

Everything I've heard says that the CP will not be included in the 2016 MY, so January would be early IMO.

The M3/M4 use the same front ends. So the M3 won't get upgraded until the M4 gets its LCI.

I want to say the LCI 3er probably has a better LED system vs the F8X, by it being a new design and the idea of it baking in the oven longer.

Why one is 1900 vs 800 is probably due to packaging and production.

Yes, I'm aware the M3/M4 use the same front ends. It seems unlikely that the M3 will ever get new/different headlights. If the M4 gets updated at all, it won't be until MY2018 when it gets its LCI. MY2018 will be the last model year for the M3, so it wouldn't quite make sense to shove new headlights in the M3 for just a single year. And BMW has a precedence on this.. the E9x never ended up with new headlights, even as the standard series coupe got LED upgrades in MY2011.

Valid.. but have or are developing this.. I would think to spread the cost why not put them on all F8x and 4 series. Especially the front
units for the F80

There's no way the M4/4 series LCI is getting laser lights. They just announced laser for the i8 in the US not too long ago, it then has to trickle down to the 7, 6/5, and then the 4/3.

7 Series already has it, currently not an option in North America. However, its already on sale in other markets with Laser. I would expect it to be quickly added to the US options list.

Also the 6/5 are soon to be replaced with a new model, which I would think will be announced before the production change in July for the 2017s. However, I doubt we will get the new 5/6s till 2017 here in the US as an 18.

No reason the LCI 4 couldn't be upgraded, I wouldn't be shocked if OLED tails and Lasers for the front. With the M3 only getting Lasers, same front ends and spread the development costs across volume.

I think BMW advertised that the OLED is exclusive to the M4 GTS on the F8x platform. I don't expect OLED and Laser lights to be available on the F8x. Actually I would be shocked if either one makes it on this current platform.

I'm in the same boat.

Price wise it isn't a good choice for BMW to do it. Unless the cost goes down on the construction on the headlights, it's more of a novelty then anything.
