Hopefully Scott is a master troll, otherwise as he's directly or indirectly stated himself, it's the launch of the i3.

We can safely say July 29 is NOT the M3 launch/debut day.

The i3 is about as interresting as the Nissan Leaf. A confirmation on the material in the M3's cup holders is more Interresting than the full i3 launch.

Didn't you say earlier that you weren't interested in the M3 either, because they were going to make you pay for seats or something ridiculous? M3 cupholders ar e N/C. Now stop pouting.

One point to consider is that the US has been blessed with the most inexpensive M3s on the world market. Just north of the border, we had to pay $10-$15k more than in the US. Compromises have to be made to keep that price down. Hopefully, as a minimum, we (North-America) will be able to get as an option what is available in Europe.

People are already crying about how the M3/4 is maybe going to break $80k optioned, but adding another $4-5k seats, oh yes please.

I mean what is it going to be?? Can't have it both ways you know.

Lol so the sedan M3 has the same front of an M4 coupe and M4 GC. What in the world is bmw doing haha. Maybe the next gen's will be styled different. But the name changes just do not make sense based on the designs of the 3 and 4, and M3/M4

I said that I will not be impressed if the M3 will require costly options to be lightweight. It will be a failure of the weight reduction mission if the standard car is not light with base equipment ( picture pouting ). The M3 still very much interests me ( picture end of pouting ). The seat could be standard or just be icing on the cake, I.e just because they are optional doesn't mean the car is not light without them, it is just a concern that it could be the case.

And yes, I'm just trying to keep the weight discussion going instead of the endless engine/power obsession

The i3 actually bears the genes that will conceive the next phase of M3 and subsequent versions of it in the future.

July 29th is the launch of the BMW i3 MegaCity Vehicle and to stress its importance there will be a simultaneous launch across global mega cities to welcome this exciting new BMW.

^^couple i3's and a i8 have been testing and driving around our area lately. I was surprised how small and boxy the i3 was. Either way it looked pretty interesting

BBS FI weighs just 16.4 lb for 8.75", 18.3lbs for 9.5" and 19.7 lbs for 10.5"

So yeah, that's pretty nice.

If I get this I'll go with 18" wheels though, wonder if I can get 18" FIs...

Also, TE37SL 18x10.5 is 19.3 lbs...so it definitely is possible for 10lb savings on wheels, per wheel. Also all the BBS FI 8.75" are 10lbs less..

That's true, I'm fine with this stuff being optional but we usually don't even get the chance to order bucket seats or special models with real performance enhancements like the CSL, GTS, and CRT. On the other hand, making things like carbon fiber front and rear seats optional would make the cost of those options prohibitively high vs making them standard on all cars and spreading development costs across a lot of different models.

Since we're getting the M2 in the $50-55,000 range, it seems to me that there is some room to move the M3/M4's price a little more up market to make room for stuff like this.

Couldn't agree more. You have to play to pay. We are talking 80 to 90k! That is not that bad. Try pricing out a 911. You can't get anything on it till you hit 120 to 130k easily, and we are talking the 911 S, who wants an underpowered base 911? Now, with the new M3/M4, make it the most capable it can be, price it out and allow people to choose the options they want. Then bring over special variants for those few who want more. But don't dilute it, because I don't want Camaro's, Mustangs, and every other car out there to outperform it on the streets or the track! Otherwise, why pay so much!

I don't know. I just can't get excited about the i3. It must be marketed towards a different person than me. I find it boring unless it is 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds, goes around the ring in under 8 minutes, and corners on rails. Hence the enthusiasm for the M3/M4, not the i3. Maybe someone like Barney Fife will like the i3?

See my note above about making them a custom order-only option. That is, you can only have them if you order them from the factory when optioning out your car.

Hate to break it to you but there are already Camaros, Vettes, and Mustangs that will trounce the new M3/M4 around a track. I don't care that we haven't seen the specs. It isn't going to touch cars like the current/next Z06 or new Z28. To be honest it will have a hell of time keeping up with just the new base C7 Vette. The new Z28 is going to murder it around a track.
