Don't have time to look it up right now, but the E9x M3 vs M5/6 torque vectoring system are completely different. You have to find the press release for it. It's much much more complex than the one in our E9x M3.

I just read the full interview. It is clear to me that the M division has a clear sense of direction. They know exactly what they are doing, what the competition is doing, and where they want to go. I have no problems going from the E92 to the F82, and I can't wait to take delivery of it.

Taken from wikipedia (I know, not the best source) -

"A relatively new technology is the electronically-controlled 'active differential'. An electronic control unit (ECU) uses inputs from multiple sensors, including yaw rate, steering input angle, and lateral acceleration—and adjusts the distribution of torque to compensate for undesirable handling behaviours like understeer. Active differentials used to play a large role in the World Rally Championship, but in the 2006 season the FIA has limited the use of active differentials only to those drivers who have not competed in the World Rally Championship in the last five years.

Fully integrated active differentials are used on the Ferrari F430, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, and on the rear wheels in the Acura RL. A version manufactured by ZF is also being offered on the latest Audi S4 and Audi A4.[13] The Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk7 in Performance trim also has an electronically controlled front-axle transverse differential lock, also known as VAQ.[14]"

Most supercars still do it with rwd and most of the time intentionally; so why not BMWs and likes?

Yup, you are right. I guess I got the two mixed up. The E9x M3 has the variable lock LSD similar to the E46/M3 and E6x/M5. It's the new F chassis M5/M6 that have the "torque vectoring" LSD.

Although I do still stand by my original statement of this torque vectoring tech not exactly being "new." I remember being amazed when I read about it in the early 90s being on the Skyline ATTESA systems...maybe that's why I just assumed it was on the E9x M3 lol

I think its the other way around. MT's interview was up last night, whereas Top Gear's is pretty new.

Edit: The answer is neither, the articles were both written by Paul Horrell.

BMW has had torque vectoring for years, debuting with the launch of the X6 and then X5M and X6M, they just called it Dynamic Performance Control.

This is very encouraging as I was getting worried about the dilution of the "M" brand. I think it will be great to give customers a choice of this many high performance M models.

The EVO IV was the first one with AYC, S-AYC was released with the EVO VIII. The US didn't get it until the EVO X, with the S-AWC system.

Very good news.

Just hope they make this I6 high revving. Looks like might be if they are using light weigh components in the engine.

Cant wait to do another European Delivery again!

Detroit is bankrupt. They should move it elsewhere.

Yes this is correct. I'm wondering if they will use a clutch type LSD with electronic control, or stick to a strictly mechanical setup. Though not sure how torque vectoring would even work on a mechanical.
