I wouldn't buy during the first couple of years of a new model anyway... Wait for the debugged LCI with all the goodies, including competition package.

LCI = LED lights and minor changes to the color of trim pieces? You really want to wait a year or more for that?

That's not true. The 507 version of the C63 MG did not come out for a few years after the initial model.

I agree completely bad example

But if the M3/4 Competition Package is anything like the M5/6, rather than E9x M3, then it's absolutely worth it IMO. It's not just the small increase in power, it's the upgraded suspension components and different steering-ratio. Plus the new M2 or M3 might be the first car I buy new and do ED, so it has to be perfect. Meaning I will have 0 regrets after ordering it.

Which is why I'm completely OK waiting for LCI and ZCP

competition package

does anyone here have an educated guess of even solid information when the M3/M4 competition package will be available? already one year after model intro?
i will sell my F458 in summer 2015, then i am thinking porsche GT3 (if i decide to go hardcore) or the M4. in the latter case i'd like the competition package.
i had an M5 F10 for a year and sort of liked it, except its weight. then i got to opportunity to get a 458 for an excellent price. i took it and love it but it does not make sense financially to keep it for more than two years.
the M4 looks very good to me particularly what the have done to get the weight down.

Nothing official yet, but from history it will probably be different style wheels, re-tuned suspension, and a bit more power

Not at launch. Progression will happen after the new car is fully established.

Thank you! Now we can finally put this to rest. BMW always does it this way. People should know this by now.

What it doesn't mean is the first model year And likely not the second, either.

^^Yea I agree.

If I were to guess I would say three years after launch, more towards the end of the cycle. But who knows these days! lol

the E92 comp pack was well worth the price though.

the ZCP rims IMO look pretty nice. i wouldn't even want to change them. the ZCP rims were also wider than the other 19s. which made it great for a upgraded tire. the lower ride was also cool. that price alone matched or was cheaper than after market rims. you get rims + more

IMO the e92 comp package was a well worth it for what you are paying and what you get. BUT i wouldn't call it a comp package. i think thats what threw people off. To me its more of a appearance package.

the M5 comp package was more focus on performance, but if you ask the rims are very underwhelming. but again this time its not as much about the appearance

I know exactly why BMW delays the Comp package, it's all about selling cars. They've been doing this for a while and they know what works. BMW (they all do it) releases a new M*, let all the people get in line to get one of the first ones (that'd be me). Then they start to accumulate inventory, sales slow down, and then it's time for the comp package. They get all the media to do new reviews on the comp package. The media goes crazy saying that the M* should have been like this from day one. The comp package fixes all of our complaints we had about the M* original release and everyone (me again) get in line to get the new M* comp package.

It's funny reading about people waiting for the LCI on a car that is still 6 months from being released for sale. Especially in the case of the M4, the base 4 series has only been for sale for 3 months. the LCI is at least 3 years away.

... that's right for the M4 but the F80 M3 LCI will be in about 18 months or less, and that is if BMW does not pull a fast one and makes the M3 LCI next late-summer as a MY2015.

The way it is going lately there should be a "special" edition just about every year....

I bet the competition package, however, will come out around the LCI launch.

The M5 was already launched two years earlier at the M Festival in 2011 so it was a two year gap.
The same will be for the M3. The F30 is not getting an update this soon. The car is still selling too well.
