I was #1 at my dealer for an M2 and was eagerly awaiting it to come. It's out and it looks like a fantastic car. But I saw it in person at Detroit and I don't for a millisecond regret my decision to get an M3 instead. If I couldn't afford the M3 then the 2 would be a very strong contender but as is, I just think the M3 is a better more complete car.

But, I must be getting spoiled or soft though the older I get. I like the luxury of the Merino leather over the Dakota. I also have gotten used to having a HUD. Could I live without them, of course, but now that I've gotten used to the luxury and tech, I don't want to. |

I know it's blasphemous around here, but I welcome less power in a smaller package. It's more fun to drive a slow(er) car fast than a fast car slow - part of the reason Toyobaru's are so popular. The M2 will still win a lot of races. The M4 will still be there for people who want a larger car with more power.
I'd happily take a slightly smaller car with slightly less weight and slightly less power if it is more fun to drive. I thought today's announcement of the RS3 coming to the US was interesting timing on Audi's part as well. http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...nsumption.html Last edited by TonySCV; 02-16-2016 at 10:10 PM.. |

I'm selling, but not to get the M2...i was set to add the M2 to my garage as a second car. Like many of the members, after more and more details came out, it lost my interest.
I've only owned bmw's for the past 10 years, I'm selling to move to a charger hellcat and a daily driver focus rs (both on order). I will most likely go back to an M3 with the next gen but for now looking forward to a different driving experience

Well... I wouldn't go that far:
"Skip the M4, go directly to the M2, and collect $14,000." http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t-drive-review Not trying to spew hate, as I really like the M4, but just pointing out there are people who would. Although this thread is more about getting rid of the M3/M4 for an M2, so different circumstances in a way. Both cars are great for their relative price points and it's a similar argument with the 911 and Cayman. Depends what you are looking for (as ASAP pointed out) and what your budget is....nothing more complicated than that. Last edited by csbear; 02-16-2016 at 10:13 PM.. |

The answer is a simple NO. Their is no good reason to even consider the option. I'll consider going to an X5M or X6M.

M2 isn't going to be faster nicknaz. F87 is almost the same weight and less HP then a F80/F82. It's not possible unless BMW is under-rating the car like a sonofabitch.
And no I wouldn't trade in my baby for a smaller baby. Maybe as a second car yes to my M4 but not trading in no.

At the moment there is no way an M2 would be faster on the track than an M3/4. It's practically the same weight with less power. Yes it might have a lower moment of inertia with it's shorter wheelbase, but all that does is make it more twitchy. It might help on a tight course, but keep in mind that a shorter wheelbase in F1 was experimented with and they found it didn't improve handling at all as the car became more of a handful and less smooth. Something similar will happen here.
The M2 CSL will be a beast and might close the gap to the M3/4 on track... but not the M3/4 CZP. |

Having driven a m235 as a loaner from a dealer for a week it's a great car. Fast enough for public roads, actually quite comfortable, and not a whole heck of a lot smaller in the front than the m3. Without kids Id say give me the vert and I could be a happy fat, bald, old guy. I came away with the impression of: who really needs a m2 when you've got this? And if you need a m2 why wouldn't you rather have a m3/4? Personally I think it's a silly car (no doubt they will still sell them by the truckloads) but I just don't see the point of trying to fit a "performance" version of the already performance version of the 2 series into the line up. And then to make silly decisions like no CF roof and nurturing the drive modes (oh dear the mirrors) so as not to cut into m3/4 sales.

I'm pretty sure the m2 will be a great car to drive. The biggest complaint I have about the f8x is the size of it. I wish it was smaller, but other than there is not much else I can say. With that said there is not enough advantages from going from a m2 to a m3/4. The f80 has much more power, the weight difference is only about 90 lbs or so, and imo the f80 is miles better looking than the m2. So I would definitely not trade my m3 for a m2, but I would get if it was an additional car for sure.

I think I posted a thread about M2 vs M4 a while back. For the longest time, I thought I'd get an M2. When the M2 was first rumored, I don't think I had my M4 yet. My biggest complaint about the M4 is it's sheer size. I wished it was a little smaller. Ideally, the size of an E46 M3, or even the E92. I think it could be everything it is, and be a little smaller. When I discovered the M2 was basically the size of the E46, I thought it would be perfect.
Then I got an M4. The M4 is so good in so many ways. I liked the car more and more as time progressed. I got used to the size, and definitely embrace the larger trunk (I don't really care about the back seats). Then I started to see more details of the M2 trickle through. I started to like the M2 less and less. It became a downgrade in almost every way [As opposed to M4 vs M6, where some things are a downgrade, others are an upgrade]. The final nail in the coffin for me was the aero on the M2. That front bumper just looks horrible, and the rear is almost as bad. It's like BMW was trying too hard. I mean, I wasn't in love with the F8X aero when I first saw it. But now it's grown on me, and I think it looks really good. I don't think this will be the case with the M2. I never thought the M4 was horrible, just not the most beautiful car in the world. So, NO, I will definitely NOT be selling to get an M2. |

I'm more interested in the possibility of people flipping this car. I heard from a guy that he had a reservation for the first allocation at our local dealer. If the dealer didn't put an initial markup on the allocation, he plans to buy it and flip it.
I listened politely and then thought... I'm doing ED for my M3... Why not work a deal for ED of the M2 for the same date(~ish), pay the Welt's fine for picking up and dropping off without driving the car and then sell it when it's back stateside. But now that I've typed my idea out I think it's a little too crazy to work. LOL

Looking for honest feedback here. I switched from ordering the M2 to the M3 because the special bespoke engine and extra touches (seats, CF, mirrors, dome) but was always concerned that the potential to get playful with the M3 on twisty backroads or the track (just like Sam was from the Bimmerpost review vid) would be out of my league. My current E46 M3 I can push close to the limits and feel totally connected and be playful. From the review it seems this is easily achievable with the M2 even with MDM and its made me question my decision.
So the big question, can an average enthusiast driver get to those playful limits with an M3/M4 in euro MDM mode without worry of killing themselves or the car on a backroad like it looks like you can on the M2? My concern is I won't be able to have as much fun in the M3 on an early morning backroad rip, as the M2 or even my E46 Thanks |
