I got my CBC installed yesterday and everything went fine. Silicon Valley Bimmer did it for me and I couldn't be happier with their service and transparency. I highly recommend them to anyone in NorCal. They also sent me couple pics:

The dealer installed it? How much did they charge?

Silicon Valley Bimmer is not a BMW dealer. They are a shop specializing in BMWs. The install was $550.

There hasn't been any reported case of crank hub failure with just the 1 piece CBC solution from Vargas?

I don't understand why folks don't do the whole solution....even the manufacturer does not recommend just the CBC? We spend thousands (tens of thousands some) on wheels and go fast mods but get stingy with this

Yes. THere have been more than a few. That is why VTT does not consider just the CBC a "solution". In fact they recommend against this and even have considered not selling the CBC alone for this reason (based on other threads)

Can you please provide links to those SCH cases with just CBC installed?

Agreed and I'm aware it is not a complete solution.

Based on my research and my purpose, I felt that pinning the hub wasn't completely necessary at this time.

Chance of it slipping is fairly slim and if it does, most of the time motor simply needs to be retimed. I would pin the hub at that time.

Nothing to do with being stingy, I just didn't feel comfortable doing all that work to my S55 preventatively. Several custom tunes including full E85, while being cognizant of heavy downshifting, knock on wood no issues here besides hurting feelings on the street.

I see you stated there are more than few cases of SCH with CBC. Could you please share at least one?

Did the MaximumPSI crank hub kit over a year ago, they installed it as I live 15 minutes from them. No issues to report. May as well bulletproof the engine if you are keeping your car. Now I only have to watch the charge cooler fluid level.

There's been a good number of threads on this. Honestly, I don't have the energy to search, but they should not be hard to find.

I have been following all the SCH threads on this forum as well as other forums over the past 2 years and I can tell you that I have yet to see a reported SCH in the presence of CBC. I do know 2 SCH cases of VTT spline lock hub but neither of them had CBC installed (I can provide links if anyone is interested).

As someone else mentioned above, I also think the spline lock hub (especially v2) along with CBC is the complete solution (CBC is not the 100% solution by itself), no denying that. However, only having CBC is still better than nothing. Again, I have yet see a SCH with CBC installed and as far as I know and based on my search, the number of SCH cases with CBC is zero. Please provide proof if you claim otherwise.

Perhaps you are right and I have been the purveyor of poor info. TBH, I did the complete fix so really didn't worry about the CBC alone. I am coming from the angle of feeling it is ridiculous to do a "fix" that even the manufacturer says is inadequate...especially if I am spending a significant amount of money to increase power and torque. YMMV. I do not feel a desire to prove anything.

Please disregard my claim lol. My apologies for the error.

Way to man up.

The real reason why people don’t upgrade and spend the money, well at least my own fear, is that the SCH issue hasn’t really been figured out completely. Not downplaying the vtt solution as when my extended warranty expires, i will go that route, but there is a slight possibility that this fix might not work as well. So it’s not really a fix but a possible band aid?

This issue just seems so random. I saw s YouTube video where the guy was backing out of his garage and it spun. So random. At other times it’s when some one was turned on e85, although they never spun being tuned on pump gas.

I went with the CBC, but I'm doing a mild tune of a stage 1. Once I up my game to stage 2 and pure turbos, I will be doing the full solution.

I think we finally found confirmed case of a crank hub fatigue with just the CBC on:

https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1662729

Although this guy seriously money shifted his car and ruined everything else, he did claim he had the CBC on at the time. Would this count?
