The "Genius" at the dealer told me with that CF diffuser the auto opening/kick trunk feature won't work properly. No shit mate! I did read that you can code this off in another thread. That's what I'll be doing. |

So I'm taking delivery of my 2016 M3 in a few short weeks and I'm becoming a little concerned that this trunk issue is an actual thing. The first few posts I read I thought this was just an issue with one or two cars, but it seems its more of an issue than that. It can't be that everyone here just happens to inadvertently push the trunk button on the key fob or put their foot under the bumper.
Is this an actual cause for concern? I'm not planning on a diffuser (yet) so there won't be anything disabling the kick feature. Although my car will remain garaged mostly, when it's not and it rains or it's in public, that's a major cause for concern if this happens. Have there been any tech bulletins put out by BMW for this?

It happens to me as well, only when its very hot from time to time - close it and it pops up - I move the locking mechanism around on the trunk lid and it seems to go away. Will have it looked at during my next service visit,

WTF this happened to me twice today. Got in the car, placed the fob in the cup holder, turned on the engine and a few seconds later, I got a warning saying the trunk was open. Second time I was at a parking lot and the moment I got in my car the trunk popped opened.

I had this happen to me the other day at the gym. I got out of my car locked it and had the keys in my hand so I know I didn't push the button plus I always look back at my car every time I walk away from it, bc its sexy .. well I come back out to the lot after the workout and my trunk is wide open. Very odd indeed. Now I'm super paranoid all the time bc I'm afraid it will open and someone will break into the car ugh

Could these issues be resolved if the kick feature for opening trunk is disabled? Did any of you report it as an issue to BMW or is there a known fix for it.

I have had my trunk open by itself many, many times. I have never successfully done it on purpose. I have a diffuser but it was happening before I got it too.

I have never had this happen before lol. You guys are hilarious. Maybe because I have the poor man's F80 and couldn't afford the exec pkg. Glad I didn't check that box.

This has happened with my boss with his 435i. Happens randomly and on a few occasions the trunk has randomly opened by itself during pouring rain. Trunk gets completely soaked and he took it to BMW and they said there aren't any issues with it....

I never use my kick to open and have had it pop open a few times. There is coding to disable it.
http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...91&postcount=5 Problem solved and it hasn't opened ever since. |

I've had my trunk open by itself while driving - not good. Pretty sure it was because the key fob in my right pocket squeezed against the center console or the seat bolster. This is a crappy design flaw in the M3. Fortunately, it's only happened once a year so far.

My April 2016 build has not experienced this (hopefully it won't) but when you are driving it should be locked out from opening. That's a serious design flaw if not. Is it possible you coded something that disabled that safety feature and don't realize it? |

I've had my car 11+ mos. I use the "kick to open" feature all the time and it always works for me. I have never had the trunk open on its own and usually keep the key in my right pocket (no other keys just that one). Hopefully I won't be here tomorrow saying it happened right after this post but scratching my head about how many people are saying they have had this issue.

I think most cars these days have a glow in the dark pull handle located inside the trunk incase a child gets stuck back there.
Therefore, OP, I'd suggest the tried-and-true 1997 Cadillac Eldorado for any live prostitutes or people about to enter witness protection that you stow in your trunk. |
