I'd install the Crank Bolt Capture myself so labor would be free. Just wondering if basically a $100 would be peace of mind for a little while until I decide if this is a vehicle I plan to keep long term and potentially further mod. I'd definitely pay to have the SplineLock installed then, mainly since I don't have the BMW specific tools. I'm just not sure that right now I want to dump 3k into the car that I just bought a month ago.
If self install I would just do it right away. Why wait

VTT provides a warning that in some cases the bolt don't line up. Requiring a new stretch bolt. You would need a large torque wrench for the initial 100nm setting and a large breaker bar to do the 360 stretch. About a 4' bar with a strong big mechanic to.

Assuming the M2C is the same it is a 270 deg stretch.

I'd love to know if this bolt is applied by a robot or a human at the factory? I could guess that some of the failures are the result of a human worker not wanting to properly lubricate the bolt threads, apply the right torque, or do the correct stretch. It is lunch time and a 180 rotation stretch is gudntight....

Can we know which cars affected with this problem? Any chasis list or something?

Unfortunately, no. Plenty of theories circulating about, but appears to be random at this time.

If planning on keeping the car for long term, it's recommended to run the SplineLock Crankhub for peace of mind. For those remaining stock and still under warranty, let your dealer handle things if affected.

Usually both the SplineLock and Crank Bolt Capture are both installed at the same time. Installing only the Crank Bolt Capture still leaves the cam drive gear in danger of slipping.

The 1-piece design of the SplineLock removes any chance of slipping. For good.

complete changing is a little bit expensive for me. the solution that i showed you its better for me i think. i will load just stage 1 ecu tuning and i think its enough for me. i dont think to do stage2.

Different tuning stages doesn't make it any safer between one of or the other, there are reports of stock platforms with spun crank hubs. We speak to lots of dealerships in the area pulling engines under warranty.

The VTT kit is a drop in the bucket in cost compared to engine replacement. If you're planning on keeping the car for long-term, it would be a good idea to get one installed.

I picked up the Crank Bolt Capture, should arrive in a day or two. I'll see if the bolts line up for me. If not I'll wait until I can drop by a local place that specializes in BMWs and talk to them about the spline lock option. If I can get the bolt capture on I'll just rock it until my warranty is up and then go all out if I plan to keep the car.

If the bolts don't line up and a new stretch bolt is required; Can the bolt be removed and replaced without effecting timing or needing timing tools?

Timing tools and flywheel lock are required for this job. Once the crank bolt is removed, tension is released and the drive gear is no longer locked into place.

It's a precautionary measure, unlike performance mods. Nothing to really measure from other than peace of mind from ever experiencing a spun crank hub.

100% they will. Why would you install this if you are still under warranty? Thats the whole point of having a warranty, to fix things when they go wrong.

Most likely not. Most maintenance work will not involve inspecting or being anywhere near the crank hub.
