Yeah, I think the picture is of an F8x, not an E9x M3 even though his post could lead one to believe this was a picture he took at the dealership.

Yes, I have to believe it will support the carrier just like the E90/E92 M3 do.

I hope that's the case as I use/transport my bike fairly often on my E46. In a pinch, I suppose the fold down rear seats will be ok for a single bike but would be nice if I could keep my BMW rack system to use on the F80.

Sorry if I was not clear in my first post. It is a picture of the F80 M3 that I took today at my dealer. The M4 at another dealer had the same missing screwholes.

FYI I am in Luxembourg (Europe) and our dealers have the M3/M4 on show this week only as part of a "car festival". I still have not heard back from my dealer but I hope he will confirm that a roof rack will be installable. I would only use it once or twice a year for ski holidays...

Ah, I get it now. My apologies for just assuming that you were referring to an E9x and not considering the possibility of a show car displayed at a dealership.

Some just can't compromise the drive by getting into anything but a sports car.
Check this out, I guess AWD is kind of a compromise...:

Btw roofrack is not possible with carbon roof on the M3 or M4. Only in combination with sunroof (steel roof). It is mentioned in the small print of the german brochure.

Anyway, i'm keeping the carbon roof in my order...

What is the trunk space on the M4 in cubic feet?

OMG please we must have support system for M3. Put a windsurfer on top and women cannot stay away. Plus I really need it!

This is my justification for resisting the i8!

This is very disappointing. I was looking forward to CF roof on this M3, but I take my kids snowboarding almost every weekend and have to have a rack.

They put the mounting points on the E9x CFRP roof so what's holding BMW back on the F8x?

If this is true then why are there rack mounting points on the F80 CF roof?

Probably because they cant bother making a separate roof edge line for the carbon models. If you open the hatches they look like on the first picture

I'm not disputing what the brochure says, but this makes no sense to me. It is not the roof that supports the rack, but a CF roof is supposed to be stronger anyway. It would be nice to clarify this point.

It is steel under the mounting points, so you are right, it does not make sense. I'm virtually certain my E92 with CF roof has provision for mounting racks.

Yes I saw the same thing on one of the models at the Chicago auto show....guess I was hoping that it was a preproduction arrangement and that production units would have mounting points.

I'm sure a lot of folks will find it strange but for me this is the biggest disappointment. I still have mine on order (or at least spot in line) but now it will need to be metal roof.

Why is there even a cover there that can be easily accessed? Oh well, I suppose the trunk will have to do. Fortunately, fold rear seats are included.

The Cars on the show circuit ARE preproduction models. Nothing definitive can be garnered from these cars, though really good assumptions can be made.
