Just sent my (4) button off and and opted to go w/the "Black Edition" & 3D Design Case. I know some don't care for the case but in my opinion, it's a welcome addition. It will protect the fob itself and fits in well w/my EDC.

I used FC to process the order and....

- Order and direction is clear & seamless.
- Customer service has been top notch.

FYI - It is my understanding that all orders placed in March via FC will include key cutting.

Quick question for others that have gone down this path and had to handle the key cutting. Is there any easy way to find a "BMW" locksmith that will cut the blank?

I did the same, GATES Innovations now cuts the keys and any customer that bought previously you can ship back to him to get your key cut.

I talked to gates a little about this and although they look great the longevity of paint is not going to work. For this to last they are going to need to be powder coated bezels. I had issues with mine and future classics and gates did replace it, however replacement one came in with a chip in it.

Kind of hard to see what your taking a picture of here, the steering wheel or the key.

Man, these are nice! Now that the key is cut and you can buy through FC I think I am going to pull the trigger on one of these!

I just received my new key today and it looks amazing. The key is cut which I was not expecting and it works flawlessly. Thank you for a great product and great communication during the process. If you are on the fence about this, I highly recommend it.

When I ordered through Gates Innovations, I did not know that key cutting was included in the price. I was originally okay with not having a hard key on the new key fob. Much to my surprise, when I opened the box and checked out the new upgrade the key was cut by Gates prior to being shipped back to me.

Got it - If taken care of and you felt the finish was failing, I am almost certain they would stand by their product.

I am well aware that some don't care for the 3D Design case and would argue that it "hides" and / or defeats the purpose but I use it because it plays well with my EDC.

All things considered, I think it a fair point and may push some towards the standard / unfinished offering.

+1 for George at Gates Innovation. I got my key upgrade and although I received it before his key cutting service, I was able to send it back and get it cut by him. Much easier than trying to find a local place to cut the key. George has excellent service and responds promptly, even though he probably has a flood of emails!

Received the upgraded fob earlier this week via FC / George and am very pleased w/the results. The process is seamless and you are kept abreast of progress throughout. As previously annotated, I opted to go with the "Black Edition" and 3D Design case. In my opinion, the look, weight & feel are all major improvements.

I didn't realize it until I put the 2 items together but the "M" stripes on the side of the fob are strategically placed & visible through the hole / opening in the leather.

There was a week delay in getting the tracking number to update and I kept looking to see why there wasn't any movement. Confessed to it dropping in the back of his wife's trunk and didn't catch that, when he took her car to drop off the orders at the post office. At least it'll finally be here Monday...
