Want to go E85

Hey I want to go E85 with how expensive gas is getting in SoCal.... 91 is ~ $7/gal where e85 is ~$4/gal. What else do I need besides the BM3 tune? I'm seeing that the e85 flash is all i really need with a completely stock engine... Any recs?

Full E85? I believe you can run full E85 with everything else completely stock but you're putting very heavy strain on the injectors and lpfp, and you will have to taper PSI more significantly.

Typically a tuner will recommend LPFP and EU5 Injectors to run full E85 and minimize strain on the fuel system.

Also keep in mind that E85 burns about 20-25% faster. You might also need a flex fuel sensor depending on how consistent the E is in your area.

Just get the BM3 flex fuel sensor and run Stage 2 CustomROM.

You can then fill up with 91 or full E85 or anything in between and it will adapt to your ehtanol percentage and adjust boost, timing and fuel automatically.

You do not need LPFP or EU5 upgrade with this setup. Only need these things if upgrading turbos and pushing beyond 600whp.

So I would just need standard BM3 and this?

Yes that is all you need.

Just make sure you flash the CustomROM flex fuel map.

You can also check your ethanol reading using the steering wheel control to make sure the sensor is reading before filling up on E85.

Also when running on full E85, use a top lube like Hot Shots LX4. I also like to use Stabil Marine when pumping E85.

Also run a tank of pump gas every 1000 miles to clear deposits from ethanol.

Use 5w-40 oil and change it every 3,000 miles due to alcohol fuel dilution and rapid oil oxidation from running alcohol.

That’s pretty much it in terms of nuances and things to do to keep your fuel system happy on E85.

I'd probably add a Bend fuel filter for good measure.

Jumping in here....so QQ - I have the Stage 1 multi-map from BM3, which says it has Flex Fuel capabilities. Can I run e85 on this Multi-Stage 1 map, or will I have to get the e30 map? And if I need the e30, can I run full e85 on it? Thanks!!

Assuming you have the BM3 flex fuel sensor installed, you can run E10 up to full E85 on the stage 1 multimap and the sensor will adapt the tune accordingly.

That is the EXACT answer I have been looking for. So much information out there that's dated, which led me to question whether I could run full e85 or not on this map. Sounds like I can.

Out of curiosity, have you run a full e85 setup? How did it work for you?

No issues other than the added maintenance of full e85… I’m running pump gas now since the car is in storage.

Stage 1 BM3 tune, full Stone exhaust, VRSF intakes and charge pipes, BM3 Flex Fuel and thats all I have done so far to the car. I run full e85 sometimes and have had no issues. I do need to swap out the plugs though to go to a colder stage. Need to look those up real quick

Gonna stress once more as theweebabySeamus had mentioned, do really get the fuel filter from Bend calibration. Don't want to see you end up making a thread as we've seen from time to time about how the injectors went south because of it.

I'm in the camp of do it once the right way the first time.
