I’ll never achieve more than three continents, but it’s a nice idea. TBH, I’m headed back to Europe next year and there are only a few more tracks that interest me (Red Bull Ring, Zandvoort, Zolder, and Istanbul Park).

nice driving.

The CR-1s are surprisingly quick. They were ~2-3 seconds faster than my NT01's at WGI.

Sidewalls are stiffer.
Not as audible as the limit.
Quiet on the street.
I apparently ran them too hot....try low 30's.

Thanks man... good to hear more feedback on the CR-1. They offer the 285/30/18, I think I'm going to see if I can make that work on the front on the standard Apex setup (w/ 315/30 in rear). B16 hopefully won't be an issue, thinking a 10mm spacer will do the trick. Would be nice to squeeze in a little more front-end grip if possible.

P.S. Camber switching working out?

Didn't see that coming. Would have thought AR-1's would be required to best NT01. I'm about to run the AR-1's, hoping for similar results.

285 up front would be great. The CR-1 seem pretty true to size but perhaps they run a tad narrower than the NT01.

Camber on the fly is terrific. Being able to run .4 toe out does wonders for turn in.

Everyone that drives to the track should really consider this.

Totally. I wanted the AR-1s but my sizes were not available so I was urged by Phil's Tire Service to get the CR-1s which they claimed were faster despite being 200tw...

The good folks at Nankang sandbagged the TW rating.

Official F8X Road Course Laptimes

Had a glorious afternoon at Lime Rock yesterday to close out the track season. Strong turnout from the M-Nation!

I managed a 60.56 lap on Nankang CR-1s, a half second faster than my prior PB on NT-01. The cool dry air could have also played a factor. Stock ZCP 6MT except for Frodo DS1.11 and girodongs.

I started the season driving ~63 second laps. At only 1.53 miles you can get a lot of repetition. I must have done 500 laps this season. "Look, kids there's Big Bend."

Many of you have broken the elusive 60 second lap. It's drinks for the whole paddock if I ever get there.

Congrats, that's great, you're almost there!

Only made it to LRP once, but the day was F'd from the start. Had the car at the dealer for something just before, and they overtorqued my rear wheel nuts so badly that I rounded one off in the paddock trying to get my NT01's on. So I ran with PSS in the rear, NT01 in the front -- it didn't feel great

Hoping to make it back at some point

Great hanging with you, MaX PL, and a few other F80 guys! We represented there and were the fastest guys out there, besides a few GT3/GT3RS/GT4CSMR. That carbon-bodied GT4 Clubsport MR was nuts, but wouldn't pass me unless he was on the front straight. Maybe too scared to bang it up . Our cars were pulling so hard with the cold air... turbos were very happy

I was very pleased with my 1:01.12, my second time there. I'm catching up with you . My Garmin has me around a 60.4 second optimal, and watching my footage from the event I see where I need to improve. I think sub 1 minute is def possible with these big burly & rowdy F8X cars. I'm hoping to try to pull it off next year when I replace my Bilstein B16D and (its blown/leaking rear shock) with an MCS 2WR or 3WR.

Let's def coordinate another day this spring. Limerock is a fun little track.

The rest of my fastest times this year were:

Limerock - 1:01.12
Thunderbolt 1:34.01 (1:32.68 optimal.. crazy traffic that day at Delware PCA)
Lightning - 1:15.93 (1:14.87 optimal, on a 100degree humid day with the car pulling timing like crazy in traffic)
Palmer (clockwise/reverse) 1:52.7 (1:50.87 optimal, again lots of traffic)

I know the optimal laps don't count but couldn't help but mention them Now that I'm in all the advanced groups, the pace is much faster, and there is much less traffic. So hoping next season to get these times down with more clean laps.

These were on Falken RT660 tires, Ferodo 3.12 pads on AP BBK, and obviously, camber plates.

Yes! I was at that event last year and remember speaking with you in the paddock. It might have been my first ever track day in my Golf R and with a rented helmet.

Hah, of course! I think we made that connection at some point previously and then I forgot about it. That's a great time for just doing this a ~year. Hope to run into you again. I've mentioned this on the forums before, but if you're looking to make it to NJMP for at least 4 days next season, check out moehpde.com. He sells a 4-pack membership for ~1100 (when on sale, which should be happening soon for next year, though reportedly his cost from the track is going up next year). With this, you can signup or cancel last-minute without a fee. Six 20-min sessions each day. The only catch is that often his days are on weekdays, so you need to be able to swing it with work.

I tried a set and they were practically to the base plate after one weekend at COTA. Perhaps that's why you moved onto the R16 with your latest runs?

I noticed there are 2 different "size" pads for M3s (apparently shared with a Mini Cooper JCW. If you get the JCW specs, the pad is significantly thinner than the full M3 spec).

To answer your question - the R12s lasted 4 total days (not too bad - enough to turn my calipers completely black). The R16s came in the JCW spec (on accident, I think). I doubt they'll make it 4 days. I think they'll only survive 3 - but their performance is significantly better than the R12s for me.

Both times were with a passenger in the car. The event was packed to the brim with drivers wanting to experience VIR Grand. I ran in Advanced but next year I’ll move to the Instructor group to get more clear laps. I only had at most 2 clear laps per session. Did passing in literally every corner of the track including the climbing S’s which was very exciting.

It was very cold during the nights (sub freezing) so I did all sorts of things to try to preserve the tires and prevent them from cracking. Pressures were quick to build up, but temperatures took forever to come into range, so I had to be very patient. In the cold air, the car pulled like crazy (saw an indicated 160mph on both the front and the back straights), brakes and tires had less wear, and I used the seat heaters in the beginning of each session .

With more clear laps, no passengers and higher ambient temps I can easily go under 3min on the grand, and repeat the 2:06 on the Full. I had a lot of fun and I think next year I’ll stay another 2 days for the Audi Club event.

My first time at Dominion which has somewhat of a reputation for being dangerous. My oh my those walls… And it is extremely bumpy, I ran the Ohlins in full soft and it still seemed too stiff.

This was a private event so essentially open track, loved the format and lack of stress. I corded the front tires towards the end of the day.

This being Friday, in the evening the whole thing turned into an automotive zoo. Nascars were running on the oval, drag races were happening on the main straight with F&F types, and apparently there are young ladies attracted to the whole car-go-fast scene. Who knew???

I might go back because I loved the format, but boy the bumps and the walls are scary…
