Nankang CR-1 (CR-S) Tires

Anyone run these before? My 305x30x20 PS4s feel slippery these days and a local performance shop wants to set me up with these. Never considered Nankang before but they seem to be popular with the track junkies.

Update: They have a 12.7" tread width vs. my PS4s 12.3" tread width. Basically, they'd rub with my setup (meaning camber settings in the rear).

CR1 are definitely the talk of the town on the tracks in the US. I think you will be well pleased with the results. Many people, surprisingly, prefer them over the AR1.

Give them a shot for sure. Will be a big step on from PS4S for track. I'm impressed with AR-1 pace & value.

Just ordered up my first set of CR-1's for next season (285/30/18 and 315/30/18), excited to try them coming from NT01. I opted to have Phil's heat cycle them, per their recommendation

Today is last day for a little discount from Phil's:

Coupons valid for BFG, Conti, Toyo, Federal, Nankang
PTS2021BF25 - $25 off purchase $500-$999
PTS2021BF50 - $50 off purchase $1000-$1499
PTS2021BF75 - $75 off purchase $1500-$1999
PTS2021BF100 - $100 off purchase $2000

Presently on a set of CR1 … like them but as any tire they have their pros/cons … I start at 24-25 cold and these come to temp within the first lap, 2-3 are the most consistent but if pressures exceed 30 lbs they turn loose … heat soak quick, great time trial tire but not an enduro tire … offer great feedback

Can anyone attest to the width of them? I compared their 20" iteration to my PS4s and apples:apples they seem to be a bit wider overall (on paper) but I don't want to risk it since my 305x30 PS4s are already pushing the limits with my 20x11 configuration.

For what it's worth, I think it was D_SheerDrivingPleasure who posted somewhere here a pic directly comparing side-by-side the NT01 and CR-1 275/35/18, and NT01 was slightly wider. Not sure if that helps you though.

nankang cr-1 275/35-18 vs NT01.

I was pretty happy with the pace of the CR1. They don't seem to like the heat as others have noted.

consider getting 18 inch wheels if performance is the focus.

It is but it's really to replace the PS4s or PSC2s I spend about $500 each on for daily driving whereas I can get Nankangs for exponentially less at a local dealer. Maybe I just need to go down a size but my wife just got me these 20" BBS LM-Rs not 6 months ago for my birthday.

I do want 18s for the rear though, I am starting to feel the polished iteration of my Flex tune come to fruition and last dyno in the mid 700s is absolutely terrifying with my current PS4s, they aren't up to the task, not even for straight shots.
