It depends for what. We have both and each serves it's own purpose better than the other.

I had a 2013 6MT S4. I can’t imagine how boring that car would be w/o 6MT. If they still offered the 6MT I might own one, but they are not nearly as fun to drive as an Mcar. Weight/ steering / lack of RWD......

I love my 2018 S4, but it would absolutely never be a replacement for my M3. Its an excellent car, but not a fun car. It's nice having both in the stable.
Audi make better daily drivers than non-M BMW's these days, but M cars are far better fun/weekend/sports/track cars. I can see myself having a mixed stable for the foreseeable future.

lmao y'all are gunna make the OP update this thread with another F80M
All kidding aside, I've driven a 6mt S4s in the canyons, unfortunately it does push quite a bit in corner entries, and the overall driving experience felt pretty muted, but the AWD and sport rear diff propelled it out of corners and that was really fun. Perhaps putting an exhaust system with valves on it (not sure if there's one on the market) so the car at least sounds good when you want to (with the valves open) could tide you over till the G80 |

Same boat, although I knew what I was getting into....I'm not bored, nor do I "regret" my decision, since I made the choice financially and knowing that I will be getting back in the M family with the G80 M3.
http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1488615 It's a great daily cruiser, and the interior is to die for, but it's no M and it will never be no matter how much cash you throw at it.

I had an S3 for a while ... but after 1.5yrs I'd had enough. I almost got an S4 but then realized that when they're optioned the way I wanted, it wasn't much less than an M3. I was heading to the dealership to buy an M3 and bumped into a fantastic lightly used M6 gran coupe. Super happy but I do miss the (relatively) tidy feeling m3. I may trade the M6 for the next M3 if it turns out to be pretty awesome.
