And that is the great mystery to me. How can a car with more power, more grip and superior handling feel not trounce the M3/4 on track ? As for the 'ring time, the only instance where the QV supposedly "crushes" the M3/4, it is from a factory test with a factory driver. Hardly objective or independent. Only when Auto Motor und Sport supertest a QV around the 'ring will we have a true apples-to-apples comparison. But Alfa have so far declined to provide a QV to AM&S for them to supertest. I wonder why That being said, this coupe sure looks promising

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1067504 Interestingly, it is mostly in US and UK reviews that the QV wins. Further, the Giulia mostly wins in subjective evaluations (which is an important consideration), but for me, who uses these as dual use cars for DD and track, track performance is an important consideration. IMO, if the M3/4 is able to match or beat the QV with less power and less grippy tires, it is the better track car of the two.

Rumor has it there might be a super sexy 4 door coupe version too, which would be pretty amazing. Either way, looking forward to stepping up to 640hp from the already impressive 505hp Giulia QV.

AF needs to get their shit together. The Guilias are crap when it comes to reliability and the Stelvio . . . well I heard last night that there is apparently a recall and no one can sell any more Stelvios until the recall is addressed. Stay tuned, but crazy if correct that sales were halted. Went to pick up wife for lunch yesterday and had to wait an hour as dude showed up right before me to complete his manufacturer buy back paper work for his Guillia. One of her best friends purchased one and it apparently is always in the shop as well.
That said, the coupe looks nice. The sedan to me look like a chick's car when seeing them on the road . . . great for a girl, but not so much for a dude. Something small and economy looking about it, especially from behind . . . or the side for that matter. Last edited by 996ttelise; 04-07-2018 at 08:10 AM.. |

With that much hp, those things will be falling apart at red lights and causing traffic jams across the country.

Looks awesome.
But will it run, or just sit there? They aren't the most reliable car maker, at least historically...

Looks gorgeous. I've just always thought those wheels are absolutely hideous. The car would look so much better without.

What I mean is whenever a new performance-car is announced which will not come in manual, everyone throws a hissy fit. Cringey shit like "no manual, no care" is not uncommon to hear. If even half the number of people who complained about the lack of new cars with a manual actually bought manual cars...manuals would not be going away (as rapidly).

No manual, no care. And the Giulia simply doesn’t have the aftermarket support that BMW does - track related is what I need: wheels, tires, brakes, power, suspension etc you name it. And wouldn’t it be a waste if you bought a car in this category and never tracked it...

On a more serious note, I've bought three automatic trans cars in my life (out of 30+), and all three were for my wife. But, the overall numbers support your claim. Part of the problem, I think, is that people are not taught manual transmission anymore. So, naturally the take rate is decreasing. People are also lazier - "oh there's too much traffic here for a manual transmission." Umm what? Every time I hear that, I read that the person is just too lazy to drive manual. It does not take any effort to drive stick shift. Plus, now the manufacturers aren't even hiding it anymore. New M5 with a legit auto transmission. Can't even pretend anymore that it's a manual just no clutch. lol

New info...
The Giulia Coupe will be called the GTV and will be a hybrid. They're also resurrecting the 8C with over 700HP. ETA for both is 2022. More info HERE. Year 2022 is about when the G80 M4 comes out. The GTV will have over 600HP AWD and hybrid. It's going to be interesting how BMW is going to respond. They're going to have to up their game. |

It is going to be a light hybrid with Ferrari KERS technology and it is going to be an absolute monster: Giulia Quadrifoglio TT 2.9L V6 + KERS for an extra 135hp. Rumored to be close to 640hp. Sizewise, will compete directly against M4 since it is build on Giulia Quadrifoglio’s Giorgio platform NOT a bloated M8 competitor. Should kill an M8 though based on power, weight, balance, price. BMW had better get back to the drawing board ASAP because Alfa just threw down the gaunlet. They have a huge tctical advantage of not being constrained by already having a more expensive model sitting above it like the M4 which will have the M8. BMW will never make the M4 faster/more powerful than its much more expensive upscale siblings. It is pretty much landlocked. Will be interesting to see how BMW responds.

Just as the C63 coupe is a transformational aesthetic upgrade over the sedan, so is this QV coupe. The profile is just about perfect. I'm sure the rear looks the part also. Keep an eye out for monumental discounts from dealers.

All three cars required more "driver involvement" to get through a given lap, throwing them into certain corners with wild abandon in order to get them to rotate properly. Bottom line: Both cars were more fun around any given circuit than the E36 and E46 M3s I ran. Faster? Hell no, except for the SRT4. But more fun than a barrel of monkeys, as they say. For me, a better track car is one I enjoy more while careening around. |
