I have a C6Z now and get to drive the M3/M4 often
If you're not concerned about absolute performance i.e. how fast the car can actually run in the 1/4 mile, seat of the pants wise under 120mph the M3/M4 honestly feels just as quick as the LS7, especially when the boost comes on. The LS7 feel much more linear than the S55. I freaking love doing pulls in 2nd and 3rd gears in the M3/M4 because the car feels so quick when the turbos hit full boost. IMO the M3/M4 "felt" faster than the F10 M5 (under 120mph) I drove as well, because the M5 is so much heavier. IMO an E85 JB4 M3/M4 should be a complete riot for street use and occasional canyon carving, the LS7 really only comes fully alive past 4500rpm IMO, despite its good low end torque as well Of course all our butt dynos are calibrated differently so go drive one yourself and make your own decision You can find a local Carmax to drive an M3/M4 easily as they usually have a few sitting around. I don't think you'll be disappointed! |

When it comes to our desire for non-essential luxuries like high performance cars, it's an emotional purchase. We can't always explain to others why we're drawn to certain cars. This is also why threads like this can be mildly frustrating for the op as well as participants. You're asking about a certain car that you've been interested in (m4 in this case) and you hope that at some point, someone will list reasons to hold the m4 in high esteem, despite it not necessarily being the ideal fit based on the criteria you listed. It's like you're hoping that someone will be able to itemize your interest in the m4 in a way that you know intuitively, but haven't yet fleshed out yourself.
The disconnect arises because those who attempt to address your questions apply cold logic and reason, based on the criteria you listed. It's all we really have to go on, and as outside observers we're emotionally detached. Or on the contrary, some of us might choose to live vicariously through you by suggesting cars that we're interested in, but stop short of buying. The best feedback you can get from all this is that, despite many members telling you why the m4 isn't the best match for your criteria, you're still interested in test driving the car. This means, you're intrigued by the m4 to some degree, and that won't stop until you take it for a test drive. Depending on how the test drive goes you'll either dismiss it if underwhelmed, buy one if you enjoy it, or continue trying to reach the unscratched itch if you like it but elect not to buy it. In short, the m4 is in your head The good thing about the f80/82 is if you find you like the package but want a little more raw power, you can probably tune it easily and for relatively low cost. That's a benefit to twin turbo charged engines. |

2019 Shelby GT-500 is coming out supposedly next year. 700+ HP, and allegedly two transmission options, 6 MT or the new Ford 10 Spd automatic, similar to the one in its rival, the new ZL1.

My two cents... you may or may not like the torque curve in a M4/M3. Its nothing like an all motor or supercharged car. The M smacks you in the mouth at about 2500 to 3000k rpms.

Very familiar with turbo cars that do that sort of thing. I was planning to drive one this weekend, but looks like rain.

What a strange question. Have you ever purchased a new car before? I find that talking to the fleet manager or the internet sales manager yields the best results, but all you really have to do is let them compete for you: shop around. Let them know that another dealer is offering X off MSRP etc.

I'm not trying to be rude but there is a treasure trove of information in this thread that you can use as a measuring stick for pricing. If you review the last 10-15 pages you should be able to ascertain, in short order, whether or not the pricing they offered you is fine. Once you negotiate pricing some folks can chime in to provide additional perspective. You'll also need to provide all details of the deal...lease or finance, trade-in, cash down, etc.

Stand up, leave your house, go talk to people at the dealerships. Sitting in your house playing on the internet, communicating in writing is not showing them you are serious. You are just a lazy tire kicker to them. Why would they waste their time talking with you when you don't invest any real time to the process? The internet has ruined us.
And I believe leasing is set by BMW, not the dealership. The only difference a dealership makes is how much they are discounting it. Don't expect much, like 4-5% off sticker. |
