How did you get it for free? I on the other hand am getting a hard time getting the dealer to update mine. They said I only need to update it when I'm having software issues. I might just say I'm having backup camera intermittent issues. Maybe they will update the software for me then.

I told my SA that often times my screen would freeze up and suggested for them to see if I had the latest firmware. While changing the oil, rotating tires and some other warranty maintenance work, they called me and said that my firmware was like a year old. I then asked them to update it 🥴 as it may resolve the freezing screen issue.

Wish to express my thanks to kubak86 who helped me at the weekend with getting a firmware update on my idrive so that I could get fullscreen carplay along with apple carplay unlocked. Clear instructions and links given in advance and after the remote session I now have carplay and fullscreen on my F series.

As everyone else has said, Full Screen CarPlay activation could not have been easier. A couple clicks and it's done. Happy customer.

first i was nervous about all remote process, but it was painless and simple!
I am very satisfied with result

he flashed ID 4 to ID 6 for me, then full screen apple play!

It is worth to mention that it was EVO iDrive 4 to iDrive 6 that required flashing process.

I got the fullscreen carplay tweak as well. But what I don’t understand is why can’t this be officially done when a hack can? This only means the option is there, they are just not willing to do so.

I just installed the CarPlay full screen upgrade from Kubax86 and it is fantastic! Kubax86 was very responsive and helped me with one install challenge, which was that I had Cisco Anyconnect running which was preventing my laptop from connecting to the internet (wireless) and the ENET cable at the same time. Turned that off and the install completed perfectly in less than 3 minutes. Highly recommend...having CarPlay fill the screen is wonderful!

I dont know why manufacturers are so hell bent on not allowing everything to be full screen in the first place. Too much info displayed at once is just clutter and diminishes real estate for the stuff you really want to see.
