M2C to GTS

Hello everyone:

Have been thinking of trading my M2C in for a GTS. Any opinions on this switch. M2C is a 6spd with JRZ's. Looking for a special experience and am debating whether this is a lateral move or not.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I don't think a regular M4 zcp is a lateral move from a M2c, much less a GTS. However, the GTS does not have a 6spd, so keep that in mind

Aware of the 6spd issue. I had a f80 m3 when they first came out and enjoyed the car greatly. Just wanted to get some feedback of how special the GTS is vs a regular M4 per se.

If you want a GTS and can afford it why not?

Pretty different. I had a CS which is already different than a regular M4 and the GTS is a large step above it. Less insulation, more power, you see the aero/cage in the rear view constantly

This might draw some fire, but IMHO the GTS is the only F8x that is truly special to drive. I can’t compare it to an M2 with JRZ’s but it’s a significant move up from a regular M4.

ive never driven at m2c. but a buddy had one he was never over the moon about it. but I can't really comment because ive never driven/been in one... But. if had a decent stable ie . 991.2 rs, 997 gt3, scud, 360cs.. and ... im digging the gts more then all of them but the 997 gt3. The Gts I think is sweet spot for straight up fun, "tinkerabilty", road presence , special feeling and well built. and when the world figures that out id think you wish you did get one. lol

There is NO other road legal BMW production car like the M4 GTS. So if that is what you want then by all means. I'm sure the value of this car in pure stock form will skyrocket at some point in time. With that said, you could spend a shit ton of money and build/convert your current M2C into a "GTS" and be good to go. The only thing you will be missing is the water injection system. IMO any F8x comp or CS doesn't come close to a GTS in stock form.

Side note: The water injection system adds a very noticeable and significant amount of power. Not to mention the beneficial cooling aspects when beating her up around a track.

Thanks for all the replies. Been doing some research on the car and it seems the two issue areas are the knuckles and the block for the water injection. The block has a revised part, do the knuckles? Or are the knuckles cracking a constant issue?

IDK, but maybe I am reading the thread wrong. The OP is coming from a M2C 6SPD to a possible M4GTS correct? The M2C is a very well performing car in general as most have deemed. However, I went from a 17' M2 7SPD to a M4 GTS, at one point they were overlapping in ownership. I believe my experience would be similar. I will say the M2C will always provide that everyday usability and agile feel no matter the occasion. having the automatic transmission option is always nice to free up driver focus, but not as engaging. As Henley pointed out, the GTS will not be recognized as hard until a later time. I feel that I have received more looks and thumbs up in my E60 M5 and M2 compared to my GTS, yet there have been a few times. So if it looks you want, don't expect a wave of them, but an occasional one will occur.

In terms of tracking, I have not had any issues on my GTS. I still have it at original ride height so maybe that helps. Nor do I try to bash right over the corner curbing , yet merely brush the apex with the occasional bounce. I know the crack hub bearing may seem to be an issue, but my understanding, those have only occurred when people try to get more power out of the engine/modify. I had the car serviced recently have had no known problems brought to my attention. The water filter stone is apparently supposed to be removed and replaced with a new one at every BMW Interval oil change. I say that so even if you change your oil more often, the water filter may not be changed as much.

the knuckles were replaced once and the revised ones don't seem to break.

GTS1 has the newer, replaced knuckles and GTS2 has the originals. This doesn't stop me from going over curbing etc as appropriate without any concerns.

Waterblocks: the newer one seems to work well. Replacing the stone and only using distilled water are a must

I have m2c 6speed and the m4 gts, the gts is special & few units were manufactured, I have the m2c with kw competition, all rear arms with uniball when I go from the m2c to the m4 gts, the latter looks like a boat to me

GTS is not a good daily car. If this is going to be your daily, then stick to the M2C. I have 3 GTS cars and while I love them, my back starts to hurt when riding for more than 2-3 hours.

I own both M2CS (previous a Comp) and M4GTS. I totally concur with Prodrive X's statement that the GTS feels like a boat. Don't get me wrong, the GTS does drive like a monster in terms of feel, handling and brute power delivery.

As a DD, it's most impractical unless you care less about banging the front lip on every road irregularity and speed bumps.
