As easy as it may be, I really don't feel like pulling the dash apart to put in an additional USB port in... I may be using a combination of my onboard HDD and an old iPhone or something...

Has anyone installed the NET in the glove box? Is it as easy as popping it in place (places for the tabs to stick in)?

I installed the glovebox USB, and everything works fine. The instructions that Technic posted were great. Also the video showing how to get the head unit out that Brady1984 linked to was very helpful.

To be clear with this MOD, you cannot have all 3 up and running, correct? Snap-In Adapter, Arm-Rest USB port, Secondary Glove Box USB Port? You can only have 2 of these connected MAX?

Eeeek. I am really on the fence with this one. Not sure I want to lose that Snap-In adapter functionality.

snuck off work a bit early to do this
Thanks technic and brady1984, this was a great change! Now I've got my HDD tucked away in the net in the glovebox, leaving the other port free for guests, updates, or whatever |

Good stuff! Wish I could throw you some Mp3's so you could see what the true max capacity was in the system. Is it seeing your files OK in iDrive? How do you have the drive formatted (NTFS/exFat/Fat32)?

When did this happen? So my F80 being built in June won't have a cup holder cover and net in the glove box? That's bull!

No it won't, but every car outside of North America will. It was funny when I was at a German dealer getting my service done and every car in the showroom had the cover and the NET. Felt like enabling my sticky fingers at one point...

Well that explains why all the vehicles I test drove over here in the Netherlands had them. When I get my US Spec F80 delivered here, I think I will complain that I am supposed to have it until they give it to me!

Definitely do that. The advisor handling my ED basically said that the US didn't want them...I expressed my displeasure with this. Ended up ordering them separately anyway while I am waiting for my re delivery...

To be honest I never checked how the drive was formatted out of the box, but I assume NTFS. Next time I bring it in from the car to add more files I'll double check. I was nervous at first about it being a regular HDD, and not an SSD, but so far so good. Have put about 700KM on the car since I put it in the car, including a drive to the cottage which has some rough roads, so I think this solution will work in the long run. (fingers crossed) |
