Intake camshaft sensor help
Hello, I recently purchased my friends 2016 m4. It had been sitting for around 6 months so the battery was toast… replaced it with antigrav 60ah li ion.
(reg and coded) Went to start the car… it cranked and the motor sputtered like it was trying to start, but no start. Got a message on idrive “drivetrain malfunction, continued driving possible.” Read codes and the only code is: 164020 - Intake camshaft sensor, electric: Short circuit to B+ Do I need to replace camshaft sensor? Or could it be something else? Also been searching online and can’t find the location of it, if anyone could tell me where it is so I can access it that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Maybe it might be unplugged, broken wire or it went bad. The camshaft sensor is in the front of the engine. Take a look at this for location https://images.activeautowerke.com/I...4-S55%20R3.pdf

Yeah I got the same exact code on my 2019 b58 and I’ve replaced the camshaft sensor 6 months ago and the code came back a couple months back and I cleaned the sensor and it fixed the problem and now the code is back again

Maybe cleaning it did not actually solve the issue for a short circuit. The process of cleaning it moght have manipulated the wiring or the connector to temporarily fix the problem.

trace the harness for damage. If you battery isnt fully charged it will do all sorts of wonky things. I leave mine on a tender whenever its parked.
