Read on for all the F82 M4 numbers on Models, Colours, Interiors, Special Editions and an interactive app so you can filter by various options.

Five years on from the end of F82 M4 production, and some seven years since Sickfinga’s F80 analysis, I’m happy to share the detailed production stats for the F82 M4.


BMW produced a worldwide total of 57,391 F82 M4s (a 43% increase on the 40,092 E92 M3 Coupes produced). The 57,391 F82 M4s were made up of the following models:

• 32,042 x M4 - 3.0L Twin-Turbo (S55), 431 PS / 425 hp
  
• 22,149 x M4 Competition - 3.0L Twin-Turbo (S55), 450 PS / 444 hp
  
• 2,173 x M4 CS - 3.0L Twin-Turbo (S55), 460 PS / 453 hp
  
• 828 x M4 GTS 3.0L Twin-Turbo (S55 with water injection), 500 PS / 493 hp
  
• 199 x M4 DTM 3.0L Twin-Turbo (S55 with water injection), 500 PS / 493 hp

*RoW = Rest of World, NA = North America, LHD = Left Hand Drive, RHD = Right Hand Drive

The first F82 M4s were built in February 2013 when a batch of 24 pre-series cars were produced. The very last F82 M4 rolled off the production line over seven years later on 9-June-2020.


The Colours




Several colours received new paint codes through production, for example Sakhir Orange (B50) became Sakhir Orange 2 (C1H) (from Q2 2016 builds onwards). These changes were typically due to supply chain issues and in the case of Sakhir Orange, BMW issued the following change notice:-

“Option code: B50
Equipment Description: Sakhir Orange Metallic Paint
Change: Deleted
Models affected: All M3, M4

Details of change: Sakhir Orange changes option code to C1H, and the name changes to Sakhir Orange II.
C1H Sakhir Orange II metallic paint Added All M3,M4 models Replaces B50 Sakhir Orange. The colour is identical to B50.”

Ferrari Red (U90) also received a new paint code, but rather than call it Ferrari Red 2, BMW decided to change the name completely to Rosso Corsa so that it matched the official Ferrari name for the colour, and gave it the paint code P7K. The final Ferrari Red (U90) F82 M4 was produced in September 2018, the first Rosso Corsa (PK7) in October 2018.



The Interiors





DCT vs Manual

Just 9% of F82 M4s were produced with a Manual Transmission with only North America showing any significant demand.





Carbon Roof vs Sunroof

As with the Manual Transmission, a sunroof / moonroof was most popular stateside.






M4 CS

BMW produced a total of 2,173 F82 M4 CS. That number compares to 1,263 F80 M3 CS and 2,381 F87 M2 CS.

The initial press articles for the M4 CS in early 2017 suggested BMW would make around 3,000 M4 CS. That may well have been the target, however within a year of those articles, new WLTP emissions regulations were implemented across Europe that ensured no further F82 M4 CS could be produced for that market beyond May 2018.

Whilst existing stock could continue to be sold, the final F82 M4 CS destined for Europe was produced on 28-May-2018, a good 18months before the final F82 M4 CS (US spec), rolled off the production line in November 2019.

Clearly those regulations had a huge impact on BMWs ability to meet that initial target

Special Editions

Pre-LCI special editions

Owners Club Indonesia

• Built in 2014, a run of 12 Individual RHD M4s ordered for the BMW Indonesia Owners Club
• Each car came with an Individual paint finish
• 3 x Brilliant White, 2 x Speed Yellow, 1x Fire Orange 2, Grey Black, Santorini Blue 2, Purple Silk, Jubilee Silver, Signal Green and Salamanca Blue
• Carbon Fibre trim with “Indonesia Owners Club ONE of 12” inscribed

M4 DTM Champion Edition (not to be confused with the later M4 DTM)

• Built in 2015, 23 built (18 x LHD, 5 x RHD), supplied in mainland Europe, Middle East and Japan
• All 23 finished in Alpine White with special DTM livery
• Carbon Fibre trim had Marco Wittmann’s signature and each car’s actual number out of the 23 produced

M4 Performance Edition – Singapore

• Built in 2016, these 10 RHD M4 Competition models
• Each car had its own Individual paint finish
• Sepia, Speed Yellow, Lava Grey, San Marino Blue, Sepang Bronze, Violet Blue, Siena Red 2, Bright Red (Hellrot), Silverlake and Malachite Green
• Carbon Fibre trim with “1/10 Singapore” inscribed

M4 Pure Edition – South Africa

• Build in 2016, 37 x RHD M4 models
• Finished in Black Sapphire, Alpine White and Mineral Grey, all came with an Anthracite / Cloth interior and a distinct lack of optional extras

M4 Competition Sport – Spain (not to be confused with the M4 CS)

• Built in 2016, a run of 54 LHD M4 Competitions only available in Spain
• Cars were finished in one of three colours, Brilliant White, San Marino Blue or Jerez Black
• Each came with an Individual interior of either Cohiba Brown, Gold Brown or Black with Contrast Stitching

M4 Avus / Telesto Edition (KA532) – mainland Europe

• Built in 2017, a run of 30 LHD M4 Competitions
• 10 x Avus Blue and 20 x Grigio Telesto
• All came with an Individual interior
• Carbon Fibre Trim with either “1/10 Avus” or “1/20” Telesto inscribed

F82 Special Edition China (KA544)

• Built in 2017, a run of 51 LHD M4 Competitions
• Finished in one of three colours, Frozen Silver, Java Green or Speed Yellow
• All 51 came with a Full Black Leather interior

FAN Edition (KA554) – China

• Built in 2018, a run of 25 LHD M4 Competitions
• All 25 finished in Frozen Red 2
• Interiors were finished in Black with Sakhir Orange Contrast Stitching

M4 Pure Edition – Australia

• Built in 2017, a run of 33 RHD M4 Competitions
• Finished in one of six colours, Alpine White 3, Austin Yellow, Black Sapphire, Sakhir Orange 2, Silverstone 2 or Yas Marina Blue
• All came with an Anthracite / Cloth interior, Comfort Access, Head-up Display, Surround View and HiFi Audio

M4 Edition Performance (KA551) – East European Countries

• Built in 2017, a run of 39 M4 Competitions
• All were finished in Grigio Telesto
• All came with a Cohiba Brown interior

M4 Heritage Edition 1/750 (KA565)

• Built in 2019, a run of 777 M4 Competitions
• Cars came finished in one of three colours, Imola Red 2, Laguna Seca Blue or Velvet Blue
• The US received the bulk of this special edition with 400 units shipped. Disappointingly, all 400 came with a pretty basic set of options. For example, Carbon Brakes could not be optioned and they all came without Adaptive LED Headlights v2 ICONs, Head-up Display and Surround View
• In contrast, the 377 made for the Rest of the World all came well optioned, including: Adaptive LED Headlights v2 ICONs, Head-up Display as standard and many others optionally fitted with Carbon Brakes and Surround View

Born in ///M Town Edition – Germany / Benelux

• Built in 2019 and 2020, 118 M4 Competitions and 1 M4
• Produced in two batches, 55 cars in early 2019 and a further 64 in late 2019 / early 2020
• All produced in one of 30 Individual colours
• Door sills with ‘Born in ///M Town’
• Trim in early batch lasered with ‘///M4 Competition’. Later batch with ‘Born in ///M Town’
• Most had trim accents, including steering wheel, finished in paint colour

App notes:

Model Year

ModelYear is only a concept in North / South America and some parts of Asia and is identified by character 10 in a VIN number. The rest of the world doesn't use this identifier and therefore always has a 0 in character position 10. Therefore, ModelYear (MY) in the app is based on the following rules:-

• For markets that use ModelYear, it is set to the ModelYear of the car
• For all other markets it is set to the Calendar Year in which the car was produced

Headlights

From launch:-

• Xenon Headlights – Default / Standard
• Adaptive Xenon Headlights – Option 524
• Adaptive LED Headlights, v1 – Option 552

From LCI* (F82 M4s built from end of February 2017 onwards):-

• Bi-LED Headlights – Default / Standard
• Adaptive LED Headlights, v2 ICONs - Option 552

1 - as you select values from each dropdown, the contents of the other dropdowns change to reflect that selection. For example, if you select Country = USA, only Colours sold in the USA would be available under the Colours dropdown.
Use the 'Reset Filters' button to start again, you should then see Champagne Quartz 2 in the Colours dropdown (it was produced for Germany).

I also have one of the nine 2020 LeMans Blue 6MT. FYI, BMW produced a limited number of M4's close to the end of production with zero cost individual colors (e.g. Lemans, Imola, Laguna Seca). They were a random mix of DCT and 6MT. It may be reflected in the numbers - 157 Imola and 161 Laguna Seca and just 38 LMB. All but 6 Imola were 2020 and all but 5 Laguna Seca were 2020.

Brilliant report and holding out for the F83 report 🤞
Only 1 F82 Row RHD LCI with full Sonoma beige interior. And only 11 in total all allocation. Assuming I am reading the tables right.
Maybe nobody liked it 😂which is another take on ‘super rare’ that a lot of people don’t seem to get.

Be interesting to see the F83 stats, mine being RHD F83 LCI individual in tanzanite with that ‘super rare’ / non-popular 😂full sonoma leather including full upper and lower dash and door panels etc.
