Cool My Feedback on: BMW Rear Window Sunshade & Door Sunshades

Figured I would post a short review about the sunshades I purchased from BMW and their fitment in our F80 M3.

These are the ones I purchased:

https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...ly-51462293368

https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...et-51462293367

Why did I get these sunshades?
I have seen on my past cars the rear window area always getting sun damaged and discoloring the interior. So, I always get some type of sunshade for the rear and front of the vehicle. It was another alternative to tinting as well. Tints can't come on and off like the sunshades. Lastly, my car did not come with the automatic rear sunshade or rear ones... (wish they did but the ones I purchased were actually cheaper altogether).

How is the fitment?
Fitment is perfect considering that it is a product of BMW and specifically designed for the 3 series dimensions.

How easy is it to put on and off?
Extremely easy. Takes seconds to take them off if need be and seconds to put them back on.

Installation
You pretty much are provided with little clips that use 3M tape that stick to the frame of the window. The sunshades clip onto them very easily. Probably took me 5 to 10 mins.

They will not damage the interior at all if you ever decide to remove them. I know this because I had sunshades on my old F10 535i and I took out the sunshades before trading it for the M3.

If anyone has any questions then feel free to reply in the thread. I think this is a great alternative and a very cost efficient one at that. OH and major props to getbmwparts.com for getting these to me in such a short amount of time. Always purchase from them for any BMW parts.

I want these but almost $200 for sunshades when you can get cheap amazon ones for like $10. I know fitment won't be perfect (probably will be bad) but still. Might as well tint for a few hundred bucks more.

i have the exact same ones as I ordered the car without sunshades (kick myself in the ass over that omission). i needed these particularly for my baby and wife who sit in the back now. they like it and it certainly helps with keeping sunlight and heat out of the rear windows. the $10 Amazon stick on ones weren't cutting it. perfect fitment.

the only issue that i came across was that the 3M tape underneath the clips lost their stickiness (side windows only) so they come lose time to time. ive been lazy to reapply new ones. other then that, no issues so far.

Can you guys take some pics for us? The photos on getbmwparts aren't so great. I'd like to see the look from the inside and out. Also, are they retractable?

Question: can the side rear windows still open/close with the shades mounted?

For some reason they don't have them available for M4 or F32

I had these, along with the manual retractable rear sunshade on my E92 & they helped a lot with interior heat

Ok, Like to have more info. You buy what one of each. The rear side window is one set for both doors? Does it cover both windows in each door?
Then the rear window.
Correct?

not OP but i have the same OEM sunshades as I posted earlier. i took some really quick pictures for those who are curious about them.

rear passenger side

rear passenger bottom rear clip. literally a stick on (3M tape already on the clip before install). this one tends to come off during colder months, but due to my mistake since i adjusted them constantly when first installing. i'll put new ones on when i get the chance.

another view of the rear passenger side. you could see the other clips (bottom center, center near b-pillar, top center).

driver side window.

rear window. there are two clips at the top (a few inches away from the top brake light).

note:

1. all sunshades are one piece. you can take them off the clips, fold/bend them, and store them in an included storage bag.

2. i haven't tested their durability in terms of wind resistance as i dont want to take the chance of going at highway speeds and having them fly out the window or unclipping and slapping my kid's face.

3. i have rear window tint at 35%. from the outside they reduce the darkness even further... like 5% tint from far away. from the inside visibility isn't reduced as much as i thought. i could live with it. luckily i haven't been pulled over.

Exactly what I needed since I'm parking the f80 outside from now on lol. E46 m3 took the garage lol

Besides for people in NY this is a good alternative to tints

Thanks for this post! For the rear windshield shade, how many clips are you using and where did you place them? On the C pillar trim?

there are only two at the top, a few inches away from the brake light. they are a snug fit around the bottom and sides of the rear window.

My rear shade is sagging pretty bad, but yours looks tight as a drum. Did you do anything to get it that way?

I'm confused here... you just want to be able to remove these and have non-tinted windows from time to time? Why not just tint it with a really good tint?

nope. just followed the directions. absolutely no sagging.

i already have 35% tint. not dark enough, especially with the sun shining directly into my kids eyes. hindsight, i wish i could've gotten 3M crystalline at 50% (better heat rejection) along with the rear sunshade option for better visibility when needed.

Unfortunately, my car didn't have the Rear Sunshade option and don't want to go the tint route this time. Maybe later. But being in Florida I can see how these are a must. Mental note to check this option next time.

So I grabbed the ones the OP used and I'm quite happy with them. I just snapped them in place. I didn't even use the provided clips. I have been driving around and they have held up fine. They really do reduce the heat in the interior. Far from perfect but not bad.

I'm waiting for the rear window one to arrive.
