So I am trying to buy-off my car but BMW financial won't give me a buy-off quote as I am under the recall for this damn driveshaft. Been trying for months now and dealers have no info on when I will get mine replaced. My lease is up in 6 months and if it don't get replaced than I can't purchase this car. What kind of BS is this?
Government put a sale stop on all affected vehicles until its fixed.
If there is anyone in NJ that works for a dealer that could help out with this recall let me know. As I said I have been trying for months to pay off the car with no success.

No parts available yet, but I did get BMWNA involved and they're trying to work something out. Maybe extend the lease

I'm looking at a 2017 M4, it's affected by the recall, is it still worth purchasing or more of a headache?

This recall shouldn't affect your decision on the car one way or the other. The recall doesn't even seem to be something that BMW is taking seriously. This thread is mostly around just wanting to get the drive shaft swapped, wanting to know if it will still be CFRP, and trying to get info on if BMW is finally moving forward with it. Don't read it as this is a major recall issue that is causing a lot of problems for owners.

Took my car in this morning for the Driveshaft replacement. I'm in Lebanon so we're also affected here.
Will revert back when I pick it up in the afternoon.

Just got my car back from service and I confirm that my CF driveshaft has been replaced with a new CF driveshaft.

Just a heads up mine is getting replaced today and my SA mentioned another GTS was getting done today also. Looks like they're freeing up parts. (Mines just a regular old civic M3)

Less than 3k cars are affected, but the fix has been slower than a snail running.

My SA is telling me that mine is getting replaced with the steel version which I’m not happy about. Will calling BMW N.A. to inquire further.

I was told today by the SA there do not put the CF shafts in anymore and that it is aluminum. Sad but better than a driveshaft possibly breaking. I also filed a complaint to BMW USA in regards to the driveshaft being downgraded from CF to aluminum. It is only affecting a small number of M3/M4s, so it is a manufacturing defect rather than a design defect, so by that logic, it should be replaced with a CF shaft, especially if this part was advertised as a selling point.

Interesting.. because 99% of what I see on here is accusing people of abusing the cars on track.. So "because racecar" doesn't fit with most. With some of us, yes.. Most just want to rub the shaft..

Update: contacted another dealership, and the SA confirmed with the tech/foreman that it is replaced with a cf driveshaft. WTF is happening. Why are there differences in replacements even regionally?

Because that was part of the package that they bought just like most people would care if their aluminum hood was replaced with a steel hood.
