Swapped 666's for 437's

As the title; I swapped my standard silver 20" 666's to black 19" 437's yesterday. Both with Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

What a difference. The ride is notably better, smoother, I can hardly detect any difference between comfort and sport now, both ok, whereas before comfort was still too hard for me. The sport setting is probably as compliant or better than comfort was before. The steering feels better too, strangely the car feels lighter? Downside is the road noise from bad surfaces is about the same, to be expected as they have very similar (loud) noise ratings. The difference in weight of these wheels is surprising, The 437's notably lighter to carry, in fact a very light wheel/tyre for the size of them.

I also think the car looks far better, the black 437's with a white car look fantastic rather than chav bling of the 666's. Being able to see the brakes for one. They won't be going back on! Dilemma is what tyres to fit when I wear out the PSS's? PS4, GYA3 are top of my list.

I think if the magazines had tested the M3 Comp package with 19s, the car would have had much better ratings. Most complained about the ride with the 20s. I just don't think they ever figured out how to dial in the suspension with those monsters.

Funny because yesterday I was thinking about swapping my 437M with the 666M.

Although I also like the HRE P101, Vorsteiner V-FF 101, ... in black. My car is the F82 in Alpine White and I want to kerp the 437M for winter tyres.

I bought my 2018 F80 ZCP w 19" 437s in a custom order..bunch gave me flack for not getting the 20's, but I liked the looks better, and I felt the 20's would be less performance oriented. With that said, I got stuck w the contis on my ZCP lol...traction isn't great w them. However I recently ordered the PS4S in 265/285. We'll see how that goes..

Did you consider the 763M? They are better than both

They are offered in matte black, frozen gold or orbit grey (exclusive to the CS). Rears can be had in 20” (M3/4) or 19” (M2).

They are also the lightest OEM metal offering for the F8X.

The 666's remind me of the same nvh issues I had with my rs3

Both cars had 30 series tyres, and crucially both cars did not go through development with a 30 series tyre - they were added much later in the model cycle long after all the sound deadening, top mounts and rubber bushings throughout were chosen for the base model

It was so bad on my rs3, on our coarse bitumen country highways the whole dashboard would resonate. Audi obviously knew the issue because they chose an oe pirelli tyre with a foam insulator - my s3 on 35 series tyres I'm comparison was perfectly smooth and quiet

That was the main reason I bought the 437's. Changed my mind, they are permanent. Can only be better still with quieter tyres.

LOL, THEROK iirc had a post in a thread a few months ago praising the 666 for being the lightest(!) and best oem wheel. I'm not sure if he read the replies back then or the weights posted in this thread.

But to be sure, in term of heaviest to lightest:
666 > 437 > 763

If I must spell it out for those in which the struggle is real, the 18s are the "lightest OEM metal offering for the F8X" not the CS wheels.

I don't know who you are, but am glad that you recall my posts. Thanks, pal!

And I don't recall praising the trip6s as the lightest, but certainly the best looking f8x OEM wheel in my eyes in gray/black. Interestingly enough, I don't give a flying f about factory wheels unless we're talking about the perfectly timeless and fitted OEM BBS mags on the 991.2 RS cars.

M cars never look their best w/ factory wheels.

Sure for those that don’t have the CCBs but if you do have the CCBs then the 763M wheels are the lightest.

I think the 666M wheels are the ugliest wheel that BMW have fitted to an M model particularly the lack of concave and they're a mongrel to keep clean. Despite trying to like my 666M wheels it wasn't working even with spacers and lowering and the massive difference a set of 763M wheels painted silver on a Mineral Grey M4 made was outstanding transformation in my eyes. The 666M wheels look awesome off the car on the garage floor

I think the best BMW 20's are the F10 M5 343M wheels that are similar to 437M's with great concave.

They're painted in BMW Dekorsilver paint code A55. It's the same colour as the E90/92 M3 359M wheels

I am absolutely blown away with that setup! So perfect! Did you just buy the matte black ones and have them painted? Also, what did you do about the little M logo sticker on the wheel when it was painted?

They were an M Performance wheel and tyre set in matte black and I took them to a panel shop with a Glasurit paint system that has the BMW wheel paint codes and mixing formula. I bought a new set of M logos as I damaged the originals a bit getting them off.
