So can we simply do this through FDL coding? And there seems to be some confusion regarding which modules to FDL code, so if anyone can clear that up, that'll be great.

Thanks

You can either VO code or FDL code; end result will be the same.

EDC = VDC.

And what values do I have to change? I don't have ISTA-P but the car also doesn't have TPMS to fire off warnings so...

You do not need ISTA-P. Coding is done with E-sys.

I know, I've coded 70+ cars of my friends and family, but I read that ISTA-P is needed to reinitialize something, that's why I'm asking.

@Racer20 - I could use your help with this - tried to PM you but your mailbox is full.

Would you mind dropping me a message so we can discuss?

Here's my background:

I've tried both VO and FDL coding on my car and can't get this to work - it throws chassis errors in the car and CAFD errors in e-sys. Another coder took a look and was none the wiser. Furthermore, I still have an error code (not visible, but when code reading) stating damper state default error.

So my questions:
What do you need to reset either in ISTA-D or eSys to clear all codes? I reset zero positions but seen remarks to accelerometer reset?

What FDL settings did you find to work and under what conditions (coding, sleep state etc).I compared to a friend's M3 CS but still those settings failed.

Any insight on your working I-step version is appreciated.

I'm close to binning the system and fitting Bilstein B6 dampers but it would be great to get this working one way or another!

Many thanks if you can help.

Thanks!

Pretty sure I dropped him a message but didn't hear back - do you have direct contact details?

Thanks for the tip

ISTA+ is used. ISTA-P is slowly discontinued software used to program E-series.

How does the CS feel with a non zcp car. Is there less skipping over bumps compared to zcp EDC coding? Or is it to mismatched for spring rates?

Haven't driven the car yet but I just VO coded by DSC and ICM modules to CS and I'm seeing a fault in ISTA+. Cleared it but it reappears, just seeing if nayone else had this issue? I have a Non-ZCP M3.

This is the continuous problem I have, making the CS damper coding impossible for me.

It seems there are some cars that for whatever reason just won't take the coding without throwing continuous chassis errors.

I just spent a couple of hours trying to get this to work on my M4 ZCP

I tried FDL-coding the Fahrzeugtyp to F85_comp ... got the "chassis error, drive carefully" fault message. EDC wouldn't operate and my M-drive settings just dropped me back to 'D/comfort'

Coded back to standard.... but still had the chassis error. :-(

Getting worried now, I installed ISTA+ and read out the fault codes. It suggested I restarted EDC to calibrate accelerometers. I did that and the fault went away. Hooray! So.. now I had the ISTA+ power, I foolishly thought I'd try the CS settings again.

FDL coded back to F85_comp and got the chassis error. Fired up ISTA+ ... it told me everything was OK and there wasn't any obvious way to reset EDC! The car still claimed a chassis error and wouldn't let me change EDC settings. VO coded back to standard, and this time ISTA+ saw the fault code and I could clear it.

This makes me wonder .... is there a minimum ISTEP level the car needs to be at for this to work properly (i.e. perhaps ESys knows about the settings, but the firmware in the VDC1 module doesn't?) Would a software upgrade help?

Almaretto is this plausible? (ISTA+ says the I-Level Actual is F020_16-11-502 and this may be from before CS was a twinkle in BMW's eye)

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated!

PS: All of this is somewhat more stressful since December with eSys Launcher Premium now needing me to keep changing the system time, rebooting, "re-arming" etc. and still only manages to successfully start up esys about 1 time in 5!

Why are you coding F82 to F85?

Almaretto I was using this value because it was the only one that popped up when I searched the forum for `Fahrzeugtyp`, e.g. https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...2&postcount=94 However, now that I reread the conversation around that post, it appears that the user may have been trying to code an M3? (I guess I didn't pay enough attention since the thread is entitled "M4 CS EDC Coding" )

There doesn't seem to be any mention of the specific FDL value to use for `Fahrzeugtyp` for M4 ZCP.

I guess I will play with the VO coding TypeSchlusse route (though even that information is now getting somewhat confused in this thread)

Never seen it recommended to code F85. Incorrect values will result in need to code back and reset using ISTA+.

VO coding will give you correct parameter.

I'd say that you guys already did it right 75%, if the chassis malfunction still appears, all you guys need to do is just recalibrate the EDC in ISTA.

i believe the sequence should be like this based on my exp: VO/FDL Code the VDC Modue >> Open ISTA >> General scan >> Service Plan on VDC module >> Calibrate the vertical xxxx sensors.

i can assist it remotely if you guys still confused.

Hi Guys,

Looking to change the steering module to GTS instead of stock. Will I need to FDL code certain parameters or do I need to VO code?

I do have ESys, but Launcher has expired; and no response from TM.

Any help would be much appreciated? Almaretto
Along with some details on which modules and values, please.

Car is UK 2017 spec, F82 M4, stock - non ZCP, at version 18-03-532.

I already have BootMod3, so managed to flash the transmission to GTS; and yes, it is a lot smoother.

Now keen on getting the steering to GTS; as I have heard it is better.

Thank you for your help...

You can do it either via fdl or vo code. No launcher needed to vo.

Thanks, Almaretto

Can you please share a bit more detail? Module and parameter values please.

I know I can probably trawl through and search the forum posts (not to say that I haven't already tried); but would really appreciate if you/ anyone could post the module & parameters for FDL coding.

Many thanks...
