Launch Control. How to???

Ok so I've had two M4's now. The first one I launched twice. This one never so far. I find it so difficult to get it into a launch state. Is it just me or am I doing something wrong?

1, hold traction button down until you get the lights up on dash.
2. m2 and all sport modes set.
3. left foot hard on brake
4. in gear and right foot to the floor making sure kick down button depressed under pedal.
5. adjust revs to approx 2000 with steering wheel up/down button.
6. release brake and hold tight.

Why won't it enter launch state every time? it often(mainly) just bogs down as if its trying to drive but with brake on.

I don't want to constantly launch my car but i'm just curious as to what i'm doing wrong.

all suggestions welcomed and will be tested.

There are limits on how often you can use it, to reduce excess wear on the components. It also has to be driven for a while and warmed up before it's enabled.

I've also never done a full launch start in my M3, on top of the OP's question, can it be in manual or does it have to be in auto drive modes, if auto does gear change selector also have to be in setting 3?

Thanks....

It’s a waste of time anyway, just lights the rear wheels!
Can launch a lot better without it personally

From memory,
Car had to be warmed fully before it will let you use it, gear change in Manual mode and s3 on gear selector level.
Traction off.
Hold brake, floor throttle.
Adjust revs on steering wheel and release the brake.

Has to be in manual mode IIRC I haven't bothered with LC in this M, it's pretty useless on the others and this will be no different especially at this time of the year.

Your selecting M2 after you have pressed and held down the TC button. So if you have Traction control set to MDM on your M2 button setting then what you are doing is switching TC off and then back on when pressing M2.

Swap those two steps around and you should be good to go provided temps etc. Are up and at correct levels.

I changed my M2 mode - would this need to be set to all sport settings before using launch?

Sport and Sport +, however you would have to select that the TC is all the way off as well.

*Disclaimer: Do not do this if you plan to drive around the street afterwards in M2 mode... The M3 with TC all the way off is a handful.

Forget the M preset buttons just use the individual ones.

The car launched fine when it works but following the same routine each time to get it into launch state is so hit and miss.
The reason the rear end lets go when launching is because most people have it at around 3k+ revs to launch. Totally unnecessary. Use 2400rpm and you'll be surprised. Just hold tight and enjoy. Drive can be in Manual mode and it will change gear automatically if throttle held flat down. I will post up a video in next couple of days.

Going to the track for first time soon so just wanted to be clear.. even while on manual mode the car will shift on its own as long as the accelerator is floored? Or do you have to use the paddles

In manual the car WILL NOT change on its own. It will hit a rev limiter and you will bounce off that until you change gear with the paddles.

Question. Has anybody noticed this? When launching the car. Once you let go of the brake. There seems to be a one second delay before the car actually takes off. It doesn't just launch the instant you let go of the brake. Maybe it's half a second. Any input would be appreciated!

Not in launch mode it won't. It changes. Provided you're on full acceleration.

He was referring to driving on a race track.

Guess I should have quoted the question.

I can’t say I have noticed. I am either used to it, or I’ve only have a CLA45 to compare it to which used to feel like a year before it launched.

You can't feed the throttle in, you need to go foot to the floor quickly.

I wasn't pressing the throttle quick enough it's working now!

While using launch control it will change for you but you need to keep your foot rooted to the floor. If you lift off at any point and put your foot down again it will be in manual mode.
