Digging an old thread..need your inputs please..so I live in Arlington and I’m looking to buy a slightly used 2016 340xi which got depreciated hard like almost 30k..Does the county charge property taxes based on base NADA guide value of the car or does it also slash taxes on the 10-15 K in additional options that car has?

https://taxes.arlingtonva.us/vehicles/vehicle-taxes/ Tax Assessments The Commissioner of Revenue’s Personal Property Tax Division assesses all Arlington vehicle personal property taxes, based on: The County Board’s set tax rate (for 2016, the tax rate has been set at $5.00 per $100 of assessed value). Your vehicle’s value. (The Commissioner uses the “Clean Loan” value in the January [of the tax year] edition of the “National Automobile Dealer’s Association Used Car Guide” for vehicle assessments.) The number of months your vehicle was located in Arlington. The amount of tax relief your vehicle is provided. The Code of Virginia and local ordinances. |

To be honest, I have never been able to perfectly understand all taxes, or rather where taxes come from, how they are calculated and who needs them at all. But I know one thing for sure that a person is obliged to pay taxes, otherwise he will be put in prison. But have you ever thought about whether this is fair at all? We have to pay taxes for all the property that we have, we have to pay for the property that we are going to buy, we also have to give the tax from the salary, but the state, in turn, does not owe us anything. And for example, I really don't understand what I'm paying for, just recently I found out about my income data, about paying taxes and all sorts of different things through a similar service like https://www.thepaystubs.com/ and I realized that I had already given away too much money.
