Is the difference in taxes/import duties or whatever? I know other countries have dramatically higher prices on cars, but most of that is due to the country imposing taxes or some other fee. Or is the car itself that much more expensive?

The tack on after thought screen is really a shame. Look at the new Audi A3 and they have a beautifully thin screen that motors straight up out of the dash, and this is on the base model that is about $30k.

NZ has no import duties on cars, but the way local pricing works for premium brands mean we pay through the a**hole for Merc, BMW, Audi etc, and get the Japanese/Korean brands pretty cheap.

We are a tiny market, a pimple on the backside of the flea on the elephant, so it seems premium brands can command much higher prices as they are less available.

Base price for the C63 coupe is $120,000USD. M3 about the same.

That's why so many of us have started importing cars from the UK and even direct from manufacturer in some cases. Waaaay cheaper.

Yeah, leftover past year models they couldn't get rid of always go cheap. Hey, it's a win/win. You save money, and the sales guys do a dance because they unloaded the red headed stepchild.

Exactly, and it's even more evident considering the new generation C is coming up.

The problem with the W205 AMG car is that nobody seems to have even the slightest idea when it will be released. Even waiting until Spring for the M3 is killing me, I can't just keep waiting indefinitely.

You are going to be in a sticky situation then, when AMG come out with their trick AWD V8TT, which destroys the M3 in sound, but gets owned in handling?

Actually you sound like you've made your mind up already.

Same here re the handling.....and I'm nervous too....was a bit appalled to see the 535iX come last in that recent comparo with A6, E500 and Cadillac something-or-other.

new m3 or new c63

Before the unveil of the new c class the other day, i was dead set on m3 sedan being in the cards, with no questions asked. But now, the new c200 in amg garb is very attractive looking and the interior is truly appealing also. The c63 amg, or whatever it will be named, is calling my name now.

Assuming the new c amg comes with lets say 480 hp out of the box, eventually ending up with perhaps 510 or 520 and an AWD option, well, my guaranteed order of an m3 will need to be reviewed by the board of directors

Anyone else hear the amg drums in the jungle?

Once upon a time I would never have purchased a hi-performance car with a turbo and I thought I was in heaven driving the E9x M3. Now that BMW has moved on to the turbo realm, there is absolutely no reason not to consider other cars in addition to the next M3.

The new C does look bad ass in black and the int. looks fantastic. I'll definitely be driving both for sure. The C will still be quite portly tho, even after shedding the 100 kg's MB is claiming. The TT 4.0 v8 will be a blast tho!

The new C look fantastic inside and outside. The AMG should be a hoot to drive with that V8 TT and AWD option. I have never considered any Mercedes until recently when their design language chanced (for the better).

Great if you want to look like an aspiring business tycoon who wants to win hp wars in the corporation carpark. Or if you are a retired tycoon stepping down from your Board provided S class.

If the C63 would have AWD and manual I would definitely consider it but just not a big fan of a V8 car.
