Clutch Change/Upgrade

Was thinking of changing or Upgrading the clutch in my 6MT F82 when my lease is close to being up - and if I decide to keep her. I figure that after almost 3 years a new clutch will serve the car right

So the options are:
1 - Just replace with an OEM clutch setup
2 - Upgrade to a Clutchmasters one
3 - Whatever you guys might recommend

Questions:
1 - Is the stock one just as good as an aftermarket one? (assuming I'm running 550HP/550TQ)
2 - What is the cost if I go either way?

Don't know the cost but might be cheaper to go aftermarket than oem and dealership. However unless your cars on track or drag mode mainly stock will be fine for your power. If you know a cool dealership that will accept tunes you should spend that money on financing an extended warranty that covers the clutch and many other parts of your car than upgrading just the clutch when it isn't really necessary to do for you, could be overkill if you daily drive the car.

Havent heard any problems among the bm3 peeps running those numbers so oem will still be good and with the warranty you can keep getting it fixed at the dealership! You will need the highest extended warranty but seems to outweigh the rest.

Curious about the clutch upgrades tho from those who have done it!

Yeah, I'm curious about this too. I'm basically in the same position as OP. Three years in and thinking about tunes, extended warranties and stuff like clutch lifespan. Not sure how long the OEM clutch should be good for on these cars? 50k miles? 100k miles?

It could all be in my head (foot?), but since I installed the UCP, I'm thinking I'm starting to feel a bit of occasional slippage getting into 1st. Not that the slippage is in any way caused by the UCP, just that the UCP has a lot more "feel" to it than stock pedal...if that makes any sense. Dunno. I could just be paranoid.

OEM is perfectly fine, if you plan on keeping street driving.

I think what you are describing is the bite point and not slippage. Slippage would mean you are in gear and hit the gas and your revs climb but the car does not accelerate, thus the clutch is "slipping" and not grabbing appropriately.

I road race and street drive my car I would really like to see some more options out there. The Clutch Masters 850 twin kit looks nice but they don't even offer it on the site, but I saw it on someone's car in here. Are people ditching the dual mass flywheel? Never thought I would see the day clutches for dct's would have more availability then a traditional m/t trans. Now that there is a decent hub solution is out people are gona need clutch solutions.

From what I understand any abuse over 600lbs kills the clutch. I'm still researching to see how much power I'm going for.

Haven't seen any reviews on aftermarket clutch kits..

Seems the OEM is fine and not a weak link.

How much is the replacement cost?

I hear ya, but there are concerns. My boy had Pure's on his car 2 weeks later he needed a clutch. If I have the car laid up anyway I'd rather get it done all in one shot instead of it craping out when I need it.

Stock clutch from my experience held up to 650ft/lbs at the wheels with 25k miles.

I have the Spec Stg2+ for the F80/2 and F87, the have the same 6spd. Must say, it is a great system for the money. Roughly $1600-1800 if memory serves me right. I know to replace a stock clutch and flywheel, which are not sold separately, its around $2500. Its a twin disc with organic clutch material and an aluminum flywheel. Stock setup weighs 45lbs, Spec one weighs 42lbs. Is rated to 1200ft/lbs. Spec from my experience has been a bit conservative in their ratings so I wouldn't be surprised if it holds a bit more. The pedal feel is much more direct than the stock and in all honesty easier to drive. Pedal effort is not more than stock and it's a nicer clutch to drive even sitting in traffic. Chatter is minor, you can hear it with no stereo on but if you're playing music, you wont hear it at all. I daily drive my car so drivability was on the top of my list, I am all about OEM + feel and drivability.

Overall, have been very pleasantly surprised with this clutch. Great product and would absolutely recommend.

Not really pushing crazy limits. I have a BPM stage 1 tune (around 550HP/550TQ) and my clutch already has 25K on it.....wondering if a newer, stronger one will give me more "grab" at this point.

Clutch and flywheel replacement on the F8X M3/4 is around 7hrs of book time.

Having worked on various Fxx chassis cars with different clutches, we are finding that Spec Clutch has been the best performing and most consistent. We like that they offer so many different options pending goal and purpose with the car.

For your current power and torque output, we suspect that stock would likely be adequate, but it could be nice knowing that if you do power upgrades in the future that your clutch setup won't be a limiting factor.

My clutch started slipping after my E85 tune (550tq roughly). I am running an FX400 setup from ClutchMasters now. Its ok, the chatter leaving first is horrible though. I have been waiting for more options to become available.

I just got the Spec clutch for my M4 and its a little harder to pull the shifter in and out of gear. Clutch fully depressed when i shift of course.
