The car performed flawlessly all day - felt it could keep going forever (until the petrol low ding came on!!)

What fun. Used to drive my Sport Evo at the hot hatch days. This did not look like a HHD?

No, it was an organised evening by a local car club. Most of the Knockhill days are like that now.
