I'll have to crawl underneath and take a look. My primary reason for the catted pipes was more from a perspective of rasp reduction, but I do know that AR Design has a resonated version available as well.

*edit: it looks like AR Design doesn't produce resonated or catless downpipes any longer (thanks EPA), but I was able to source one from another member so I should have it installed by the end of next week with any luck.

I have to correct you on this, unless you have some sort of post-cat EGR, or unless your turbo is somehow sucking the debris from your exhaust pipe while the cat is disintegrating, no catalytic converter dust is going to end up in the engine scratching the cylinder walls.

So at the top of the stroke, there is a small amount of valve overlap where both valves are open. The instant that intake valves start opening it creates a lower pressure in the cylinder, and the over-pressure exhaust is going to fill the space in the cylinder - simple physics - the gas will follow the pressure gradient.

If that overpressure in the exhaust consists of a cloud of dust that used to be your CAT, well it's coming in to.

So the engine isn't sucking anything in, which is what people seem to have trouble believing. It's being blown in by the overpressure in the exhaust pipe.

Believe it or not - it's fact.

I have seen F10 M5 and X6M turbochargers started smoking and when we removed and disassembled them turbocharger was full of cat dust.
I'm not talking about cat dust in the turbo, I said combustion chamber. The reason I say that is because if the pressure required to push the exhaust mass out of the exhaust pipe exceeds the combustion pressure, the engine will cease running very quickly, taking very few cycles to stop working as no fresh oxygen can enter the engine, prohibiting combustion.

Start your lawn mower, plug the exhaust pipe, see how long it runs

I swapped in a set of AR Design Resonated Downpipes this morning, and confirmed that the converters in the catted version are indeed the Magnaflow 59959's. The cats looked fine by the way after I took them out, no degradation or flaking that I could see.

The other good news is that there's really no discernible difference in sound quality between the catted and resonated. There might be a slight increase in volume, but overall tone hasn't changed and no rasp was introduced with the switch.

We're on schedule to tidy up the tune on the 19th with the new downpipes, so I'll be sure to post up the results.

I'm up next for the big build. M4 dropped off to Billy at BMB Autowerks for a week of install and another week of break-in.

Here's the shopping list:
- CP rods/pistons, studs and worked head
- Kratos EVOs, Dorch pump and EU5 injectors
- ARM silicone CPs and Res DPs, ER J-pipe
- Wagner TMIC with BMS 4 bar sensor kit
- EOS manifold with relocated 3.5 bar sensor
- Dodson SP+ clutch pack and DSS axles
- Flex-fuel plugs, Turner OCC, Vargas line-lock
- Paul Johnson custom 93o daily-driver tune
- 2nd all-out race tune for E (not sure % yet)

My goal is to get a 9.xx second 1/4 mile run, for myself and also to get Kratos up on the dragstrip leaderboard. Currently I'm running 10.8s@127 with a stock motor and BM3 Stg2 93 so I'm hopeful to see low 10s on Paul's 93 and break into 9s with E mix. If I need to augment fueling to see 9.xx without PI/WMI then I maybe have one more trick up my sleeve.

Stay tuned!

You might reach the limits of the EU5 injectors if you go full e85. Keep an eye out for the Nostrum Stage 2 injectors, which they claim flows 12% more than the EU5s (in the comments):

I had a good email back-and-forth 2 weeks ago with Stan and he told me a little different, so I'll wait for their Stage 3 DI to come out.

"Our stage 1 injectors actually flow less than the EU5s. Ours are 33% over stock, the EU5 is 43% over stock.

Our stage 2 injectors will be around 50/55% over stock and then our stage 3 will be close to 100% over stock" (still in development…I asked…not ready yet)

Just a quick update: we're working on tidying up the tune on the road, but the bastard is pulling strong.

Prior to this last revision the best dragy I could manage was 7.03, and today we shaved nearly 4/10th of a second off, which for a 6spd I feel isn't too shabby. We're holding steady power up above 7k and shifting at close to 7.5k, so I expect with a few more tweaks we'll be brushing elbows with the low 6's.

TopJimmy I know you had the 6spd before swapping to DCT, any dragy tips for getting the best out of the manual gear box?

@MJ6
I got my best times doing 60-130 rolling at exactly 55mph to catch the boost coming on at 60. You did the one shift, same here. Tires lowered to 25psi and warmed up? Little E85 added to 93 gas? Rogue trans mounts if the 1-2 shift gets stuck (more power, it'll happen).

Nice! That's definitely moving, especially being a 6MT like I'm in. How's the boost loss/lag/delay between shifts for you on the bigger turbos? Also do you still have the cdv present?

The tires I could work on as I did feel some initial spin, so I'll definitely try lowering down to 25psi and giving them a little heat before hand. Given the lower temps this week and the fact that I didn't heat them up much this morning, I'm surprised they hooked up as well as they did truthfully. And the rogue mounts are fantastic paired with the SSK, no slop what-so-ever since they went in.

This last revision actually addressed the shift lag quite a bit, which is where I think some of the shaved time went.

I did the CDV removal on top of installing one of Auto Solutions SSK kits, and to be honest it's probably one of my favorite mods as makes shifting so much more crisp and direct.

Ok awesome, much appreciated. On the CDV removal did you replace the whole slave cylinder with an E90 piece or just drill/pop out the restrictor?

In hindsight replacing the module would have been easier, but I ended up fishing the restrictor out with a pick tool.

I'm running NT555RII drag radials in 305/35r19. They're not supposed to like colder temperatures (and I'll eventually be swapping to my winter setup) but they didn't seem to have much of an issue this morning.
