Based on my research, I would also have a concern about filtration, especially for a higher mileage car like mine (I have 50k+ miles on my F80). My basic understanding is that ethanol has solvent properties that can release some built up gunk in the fuel system on cars that run regular unleaded gas (i.e. the E10 and below in 91-93 octane gas). This “gunk”, once released, can lead to a clogged/failed fuel injector which is what some have reported when running a kit like this without filtration. Although, there have clearly been some that have had no issues at all.

I have always used top tier gas in my F80, and even run a bottle of injector cleaner (LiquiMoly Jectron) every 2500 miles since originally purchasing the car new - so my fuel system should be very clean. But even then, I would still be concerned about filtration if running E85. I like the PnP aspect of the BM3 kit over all of the other kits on the market. But I would still like to see a filter option, like what Bend makes.

After quick internet search I found this below. While originally designed for a diesel engine application, I wonder could this (or something similar) work in an S55 application with minimal modification due to engine bay layout differences:

What do you think the chances are that Bend Calibration offers just a filtration kit to pair with the PTF/BM3 flex fuel kit?

Bends filter system is top notch and would definitely purchase it as a standalone.

Don’t know, but I doubt it. They have some good info on their site about the use of filtration when running E85 though…

I doubt it as well but I would certainly be willing to buy a PTF/Bend combo kit from BC if it were available. Would probably help mitigate some loss of sales...assuming the PTF kit is significantly cheap (which I imagine it will be)

Otherwise Ill probably end up fabbing up my own filtration system that uses the ID F750

Yep, I would jump into this as well.

Isn't Ian @ Bend on here somewhere?

Bend appears to be a BM3 dealer (based on seeing BM3 licenses for sale on the Bend site), so there is a reasonable probability that collaboration could happen, especially if the demand signal is high enough…

I also quite like my Bend kit. Easily one of the nicest and most thoughtful aftermarket components i've installed on any vehicle.

Do I know for certain that the extra filtration is necessary? No, i'm far from an expert but even the chance of fending off any fueling issues was absolutely worth the little bit of extra cost to me. Feels fairly similar to the crank hub issue of many not having any problems, but sometimes they do and it can get messy.

Now that i'm at the point of running an E50 tune on Pure 2+ I don't really want to take many more chances.

I have the bend calibration kit with F80pauls custom flex tunes 3 slots and its amazing. I love not having to flash all the time or plan out my gas station stops...

This kit looks way easier to install, i'm sure you guys will love it.

PTF just released the unit for purchasing.

I wonder if Bend would hook me up with a simple filtration kit along with the PTF module If I buy it all from them. Might be worth reaching out.

Just browsing Bends website it looks like you can purchase the "Ultimate" Kit which seems to be the basic filtration system. So I assume pairing this with the PTF kit would be the ultimate solution.

Basically, you are paying $369 more to use the BM3 sensor over the Zeitronix if you go this route.

However the additional cost would likely cover the additional labor since the BM3 sensor is a 5 minute install vs. the Zeitronix which takes 1-2 hours.

Agreed.

I just reached out to Bend to see what their opinions were and to see if theyll offer a kit as well since they are already a reseller of BM3.

I would like to know before I pull the trigger on the standalone PTF unit.

There's a lot of excitement about this flex kit, but I haven't seen any mention that MultiMap CustomROMs will add power to Stage 1/2 respectively. Does anyone have any data that points that customROM maps will create more power with FlexFuel on Stage1/2 or just adjust timing so that the cars still operate with different types of fuel at the same power levels??

I believe there are a few dyno plots floating around with cars using the CustomROM maps with flex fuel control. But the whole intent of this kit, and it's predecessors on the market, is to allow for increased power/tq levels when adding E85 (or other ethanol blends) to your tank.

Sounds like we're on our own re: filtration. Hope the community comes up with a great solution!

Sucks he just skipped your question. But looks like the Bend Ultimate kit for the filter and the bm3 flexfuel would be the best combo?

If we are running E85 now, just absent a sensor, and add a sensor, why the sudden push for more filtration? It seems we’ve lost sight of the intended functionality of the sensor… am I taking crazy pills here?

I think the filtration is just a precaution. There's been issues of guys swapping to e85 and apparently that breaks some junk loose causing clogged injectors.

Now this isn't a definite but In it mind extra filtration isn't a bad thing but is it 100% needed…obviously not.
