Adding a glove box USB outlet
Take a look at http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1108386 and you'll find a very neat way of adding a USB outlet to your glove box. It looks clean, pretty easy, cheap, and convenient, but has anyone tried it in an F8x?

OK, I am really thinking about this mod but I was wondering why my car does not have the cool storage net at the top of the glovebox? I looked up the P/N 51169248396 it's 20 bucks on ECS so I grabbed that. I ordered 6NS but I do not have the USB outlet in the glove box. Is this port already being taken by the baseplate? I wonder if I could just move the connector from the baseplate to the glovebox and only need the connector? I don't use the baseplate as it is. Thoughts?

They stopped putting the net and the cupholder cover in the Ms in July 2014 based on info from BMW. My M4 was built in July and had neither one. The dealer gave be a cupholder cover.

It will work just because your NBT unit is exactly like mine and all F3x/F8x for MY2015.

OK, so I just finished my install on my F80 with enhanced bluetooth and smartphone integration. This is about a hour or 2 to install depending on your ability. I got all the parts in, storage net cable and usb connector.
First thing was to snap in the storage net, 10 seconds and done. Next was to remove the radio according to this DIY And first thing I see is what I expected, I have a cable there that goes to the snap in adapter. BOO, a lesser man would have stopped right here. A greater man would have went forward with no apprehension. I don't use the snap in adapter so I went on. I disconnected the existing cable, connected the new cable and tested. First thing is the cable has 2 extra tangs which I had to shave off. There is no benefit to getting the correct listed cable, it's 100 bucks, it's too long and it has to be cut on anyway. Now I tested in place to make sure my arm rest USB still works and the glove box USB works too. All good. After testing I pulled the cable through to the glove box, and attached the connector. One thing I noticed that was different from the instructions is that cable had a 90 degree bend on it. My cable was straight. The space behind the opening is tight and took some force to get the connector to click in but it worked fine. After everything was buttoned back up, I stuck the iPod in the glove box cleaned up and enjoyed a refreshment NOTE: For those that have Enhanced USB with smartphone integration you lose the ability to use the snap-in adapter with this mod but you gain the USB in the glovebox. It's up to you.

ECS sent you the USB2 cable (P/N-445, the ~$100 cable) instead of the USB1 (-703, ~$50), that's why.
The main difference between both cables is a filter circuit in the USB1. Good job! Quote:

They sent me the cable I ordered, I thought I was high speed and ordered the 445 cable even though it was more expensive. The 445 cable does work but it is about 4 feet long (way to long, I coiled it up and zip-tied it) does not have the filter, has a straight connector instead of a 90 and does not have the fabric cover shown in the install document. The 703 may not be the exact cable because the connector has to be shaved down but get the 703 cable if you are going to do this.

This does look really cool and doable...
I was thinking of doing this so I can put a 2TB slim portable HDD in the glove box. Anyone see any issues with this? (heat, too much power draw, etc.) |

You may exceed the current draw of the OEM USB port.
