Sound is much smoother, sound lovely at idle and standing revs. But under load with valves open its has a loudish rasp comes in at 3.5 to 4.5krpm, which is just llike my old milltek did, but this sound better even so.

But at 5k it quietens up and seems to sing up to the red line.
Looks clean!

Thanks.

I think i need to swap the secondary CATs for mufflers to kill some rasp with the valves open.

At the moment I've pulled the flap motor fuses to keep them shut. Sounds just great like that. Just a quick fix for now.

I'm going to need to start updating my first post to include list of companies who are now on board with equal-length exhausts

So far:
AA
Valvtronic
Milltek
TopGear

Looking at AWE's system (especially the track mufflerless system), it should be easy to do with theirs. Same with Magnaflows smaller/compact muffler. Hope more come forth.

Have you seen his other video? I guess he fixed the rasp at 6 seconds, I wish he would share some details:

What I've noticed even more than usual exhaust stuff from doing my own equal length setup is that you can't listen to video on a crap phone speaker and think you have an idea of the sound.

Mine has so much more low frequency loveliness than you can hear on any device. You can 'feel' it, it sounds great - with the valves shut. Smooth and sound builds as the revs rise.

But the 4-5k rasp comes in badly with the valves open on mine, like a resonance in the system. So I just mapped it with BM3 to leave the flaps shut in efficient and sport. To me it's perfect and doesn't seem to affect performance at all, just keeps the rasp away.

I know some people couldn't live with that, but until I get time to fit more mufflers somewhere I'm very happy. £275 very well spent

Have to agree, the depth of tone with an EQ setup isnt realized with a microphone, on line when the valves open, there is an hint of exotic roar that occurs at part throttle, makes heads turn actually. Like a brassy roar that occurs.

I seem to have a bit of a farty rasp in 1st and 2nd gears but only in Sport+ combined with auto bear change.
The car changes up too quickly, but it’s ok when using the paddles and holding the gears just a touch longer.
In efficient mode, the tone is fantastic and even when the valves open at 4K it sounds brilliant.
I don’t have any rasp from 4K

I could now quite happily just use Efficient most of the time and not worry about traction in the crappy weather, but still have the car sounding good.

I reckon this new exhaust is going to stop me from changing this car anytime soon...

And I have to agree about listening to the sound on speakers - it just doesn’t compare to real life!

I don't think BMW didn't know about this, and perhaps their intended best sound (they have a hundred years of expertise with lots of great sounding cars), with consideration of other factors, is captured in MPE or M4GTS or M4GT4 exhaust systems. So I think those sounds decent (especially on race track) and still would hold some value. Having that said, F8x sounding like some of P-cars (in some rev range) or some of legendary Japanese cars are pretty awesome and I am looking forward to seeing how this things gets matured, either a cat-back or modification solution of stock/MPE exhaust.

THANK YOU!

Factory primary cats.

OPF deleted and replace with hiflow secondary cats (to allow future decat DPs to be fitted but still pass MOT).

Centre resonator has to be deleted for equal length as it is a merge / h pipe also.

I replace the centre resonator with two small mufflers , but its not enough on their own.

I think the secondary cats will have to go and be replaced by more mufflers, but then that scuppers my plans to go decat DPs as can't pass MOT with no cats at all.

Cheers DB - wasn’t sure if you still had cats or not.
Have just been out in mine again - I think it revs much more freely now, too.

Milltek prices are out for the M2C - can’t see the F80 being much more when they do it.

Pricing and part numbers are confirmed......SSXBM1138 - Upgrade kit for existing Milltek Sport System - MSRP $1150 USD,
SSXBM1139 - with Carbon Fibre Tips
SSXBM1140 - with Polished Tips
SSXBM1141 - with Cerakote Black Tips
SSXBM1142 - with Titanium Tips
SSXBM1143 - with Burnt / Blue Titanium tips, starting from MSRP $2695 USD

I'm almost 100 percent going to order the AA system, just waiting on how it looks... hopefully, they can offer an option with no logo tips for a more stealthy appearance.

I don't believe these have even been released yet - their insta post says details will come in the next month. I assume they are gearing up the product page for release. Definitely a reasonable price for what it is and what comps go for, and sounds great.

My $0.02 on these systems and "price": I think people shouldn't be concerned with price because all these systems are in line with "M" pricing ~$2.5k - $3.5k. Honestly, I think a mid pipe would get anyone 90% there on sound and will cost ~$500 to have fabricated by a decent (and HONEST) muffler shop... So when we're fighting about "$3,XXX (and the rent) is too damn high!" let's all be real with ourselves and concede that you could get this done for a whole lot less with a little elbow grease and ingenuity...

Anyway, I'm pretty stoked that this is becoming mainstream - I just hope all the inevitable exhaust manufacturers give the rightful credit to the community that has pushed this into the mainstream. It's been said already, but never will be enough - so thank you Ntg, Spool, RMD, and everyone else who has been contributing!

Buddy for you to say that the midpipe gives 90% of the sound you are ignoring the R and D that these guys did. They already tried that and obviously they would sell the midpipe if it did work. There’s a reason for it

Disagree - but please enjoy whatever exhaust system you like!
