I uninstalled my OE armrest recently. One tip for disassembly (and likely assembly) is to open the armrest prior to releasing the spring. It removes any tension on the spring and it makes unclipping the spring both easy and less violent.

I did this about a month ago and I love it. Hardest part was shoving the spring back down....Afraid it was going to snap but eventually got it done. I think it goes well with other alcantara in the center plus it looks good with silverstone

No, it just snaps in place or slides in place if I remember correctly. I think it slides in place. If you look at the underside of the piece you will be able to see if it slides or snaps.

Hey I popped out that little cog/ gear... where can I find the part? It's connected to this round clip that pops in or out... whatever the gear connected to is broken.

Now you should have this.

The spring assembly is held on via the points marked

With the Pliers or similar lift the bottom portion of the spring

Pull the first pin out. As you're pulling out the last pin be careful of the spring flying away

Now remove the old and busted preparing for the new hotness

Line everything up put the pins back in with the spring positioned like this.

We now need to secure the center part of the spring.

This is where the painters tape comes to play

Open the armrest and use the needle nose pliers to push the spring into the notch

Good explanation! I don't know if was just mine but that spring was incredibly tight and difficult to pop.

I wouldn't mind swapping this piece but I can't seem to get the old one out !

Does the whole thing have to come to bits ?

It has been a long time since I did this...however, when I did mine, I swapped out the leather arm rest at the same time. I don't remember if I had the armrest off when I changed the carbon fiber piece or not. I do remember there are a few clips on the CF piece and I think you can pry up one side with a plastic trim removal tool and slide it off.
