Luckily I've only noticed 2 rattles in my M4. One is coming from the rear child safety seat anchor cover. The other is the driver side door panel. The rear rattle is an easy fix, but I haven't been able pinpoint the exact location of the rattle in the door. Maybe I'll try turning off the auotlock and see if I hear it less with doors unlocked.

Disassembled my door panels, applied Pfledge to many many surfaces and it appears my door creaks are now gone.

Pictures to follow shortly.

EDIT:
Pfeldge in circles, also pfledge around edge of door panel as it connects to the door frame. Not pictured, but I Pfeldged the foam near the tweeter and most of the plastic retaining clips for the wiring. Basically Pfledge every connection point the panel has.

Warning: Not for novices. If you aren't careful you will mar up your leather and the door handle cover can be quite tricky to remove. Proceed at your own risk.

Image crop, but continue to apply Pfledge to remaining "holes"

Is there a DIY on removing the door cards? Any noises coming from the lock cylinder?

None that I've noticed from the lock.

Here is a good resource for removing door panels:

Thanks. I saw that soon after I asked the question. I may take a stab at that this weekend.

Good work guys but damn ... you spend $70K on a car you shouldn't have to take practically the entire interior apart so it won't rattle.

Note, that I suspect the door release cable may be making noise as well. I may revise the door post after I re-exam this weekend.

Thanks,
Good thread you put together I love it.

Try this one too for all the HUD optioned cars. This was by far my most annoying creak I ever had!

I don't have an F80 but I live in the F30/32 community and have been battling these type of issues since I've brough my 335 home should be all 95% similar with the interior stuff. I also have put together a few fixes, much of the same ones you have encountered.

I also had this close out panel float around and make noises...
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...ght=Rattle+fix

This is the passenger side kick panel I had issues with..

Hopefully you M3/4 guys don't have all these issues, but I figure share my F30 experiences to save some headaches. Cheers.

Rattle from third stoplight? (top of rear window)

Hi All,

I fixed the rattles from the rear shelf area (felt tape on the covers of the child seat attachment points, Thanks!!)... but I still have an annoying rattle from the rear passenger area.

Yesterday I had a passenger in the back for the first time and they thought that the rattle was coming from above their head in the stoplight area, and that it went away when they put their hand on it.

I think it's probably part #6 on this diagram, but the figure is too small to make out any details
http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...67&hg=51&fg=40

Might also be the stop lamp assembly rattling against the rear window:
http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...56&hg=63&fg=25

So... had anybody already taken this apart yet?

Any idea what sort of fasteners it is likely to have?

You can just pull it down to remove it.
There is thin cable attached to it for light.
I did apply some felt tapes around the contact points but I don't believe rattle comes from it.
When it is up there, it is pretty secure in place.
You can try to take it out and put some felt to see if it helps on yours.

Wow, I'm amazed how many rattles the F8x has. Thinking of picking up one next year but all these rattles would drive me insane. Why is everyone doing this stuff on their own? Why not take it to the dealer and have them fix it?

I can't speak for everyone, but I'm pretty sure most of us that have fixed these issues and posted DIY including myself are tired of the same consistent lame answeres from the dealership:
-well sir we looked at it and we really can't hear anything(basically telling you you're hearing shit)
-we fixed it you should be all good now(not fixed just threw a bunch of strange slimy looking crap in crevices of your interior)
-my personal favorite, as they tear the car apart and after they call to tell you your car is ready 1/2 your panels are covered in gouges!

So in essence with bimmerpost' awesome comradery and sweet DIY's and super fast relies on questions most people have just decided to roll up their sleeves and following DIY's give it a go with great results.

Just putting my.02 in from my experience at dealerships and I like putting up these DIY becase, Its my job at work to find these types of issues and prevent them from reoccurring. We work closely with our suppliers on the issues so they make changes as well.
I only wish that company was but it's not

By the way all manufacturers have these types of issues. The more rigid the cassis crammed with plastic panels the worse these little rattles get.

You left out "It's expected that the car rattles because of the new rear suspension being directly bolted to the body"

In your case yes I did leave that out. But my F30 suspension I think isn't set up that way If my memory serves me right Im still riding on bushings.
And it would most certainly be expected in an F80/82. But the trade off for such a dynamic car is so worth it, and I welcome a few little rattles. IMO this is the most complete M3/4 car ever IMO of course Less the exhaust not LOL. Not saying its the best M3 for everyone but to me it is.

I feel a little better knowing that others are having the same issue.
It's been a week and about 1,000km on the car and I heard my first cracking noise from the AC console/trim... Oh well

My M3 went to the dealers last week for creaks and rattles, they replaced the light unit in the roof and also did a few other bits around the centre console and its about 90% better. Still not what you would expect in a £60k car but its better. new light unit feels a LOT more sturdy than the old one which seemed to sag down a bit and creaked when pushed up.

Thanks for great tips. I was able to reduce quite a bit of my interior rattle noise.

I also found my DCT trim was rattling, so got some hint from http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1070897 to put felt tape on the contact points between the plastic parts, and the connectors that were loose making the noise.

Still I have some more rattle/creak on the door panel trim, but it looks a bit tricky to get that fixed... Is it easy to detach the door panel trim only instead of dissembling the whole door panel?
