Active Sound Design in next M3/M4?
The F10 M5 and F10 M550dx uses a thing called Active Sound Design to enhances the engine sound in the cabin through the stereo and personally i think its a bit silly.
Do you think they are going to put it in the next M3/M4 to? And as i like to listening to some good music some times through the car stereo would that system distort the music? |

Just sad.

It is not possible to do without it on turbocharged engines. If you want to hear then engine sound good, not like a vacuum cleaner, plus to a good exhaust system and turbo setup you need less sound dampening, but this will be uncomfortable and noisy. I think unless its a racecar, nobody wants his M3 to be as loud as the F40.

I guess that there are more people out there that are not interested in the real driving pleasure. They all want paddle shifts, launch control, traction control, four wheel drive and now this trend with the active sound is just plain stupid for a cars made by M Power. For me the trend is clear. Porsche will continue the production for cars that are meant to be driven by real drivers. This type of real cars will be more rare and more expensive in the future. I think that there will be a time in near future where people that are truly passionate about their cars will create a market of older modified second hand cars.

who said this is confirmed? I would wager that BMW and M do a 180* here based on the M5/M6 experiment. This is the worst thing in the world and completely unnecessary.
BMW and M can do exactly what Alpina did, hire Akra to develop the exhaust, you do not need to fake a soundtrack. ever.

I completely agree. Toyota worked with Yamaha to tune the engine and exhaust note of the LF-A, and with outstanding results. Active sound should never be the answer.

Pretty strange thinking.... I guess they'll be doing it throughout the line now? Will this be something that can be coded out?

I'm pretty sure it's way too early to know about the active sound. The new M3 isn't even close to production yet.

I doubt it will be on the M3/M4. Things like this and HUD are things that typicalyl distinguish the 5er from the 3er. That being said I am not highly confident of this guess.

Well but now the new 3 Series F30 has HUD, expect it to come on the M3 F80, thoguh I personally would not tick that option, I find it pointless, especially in a "drivers" car. |

As Scott has said, the M3 owners still want their luxuries. I thought that was what the new M Performance range was for. Stick sunroof on M335i and give M3 CF roof. |

It is not only this. I makes the car cheaper. The M4 will unfortunately much more expensive than the M4: first the number and then the more extensive use of CF are going to widen the price gap between the M3 an M4 even further.

Are you sure about this, kueks? This schedule is about a year earlier than the one that Scott keeps mentioning.

M3 does not need Active Sound as the cabin is not as well sound insulated as the F10 that needed it.
