For those who own, did the F8x meet, exceed, or fall short of expectations?

I get mine on Wednesday and was curious how the car lived up to your expectations. Let's try to keep the responses to owners or those with more than a test drive.

It's an amazing car and meets my expectations and beyond. Honestly it's a track car made for streets yet it's comfortable.

Exceeds. I wasn't sure what to expect with so many speculative posts/articles/etc, but after a few weeks of ownership I am happy with the car. The worst thing about the car is the buzzing M logo on the seats!

Exceeds my expectations. It is the best car I have owned all around. The Stingray was the best track car but the M4 is the best all around car. A meaningful improvement over my C63 coupe and E92 M3 with performance inching in on the C7 but with a back seat and a bit more practical and comfortable. .

+1 exactly. Definitely exceeds.

My Exige was a better track car as well (what would you expect in a car that has no auto transmission option but did have an A/C delete option), but the M3 is so much better all around. The power band still continues to amaze me.

I replaced a 2014 GT-R that I owned for a year with an M4. The M4 is infinitely more practical with a real and comfortable backseat. The GT-R was almost magic in its handling, responsiveness, and absence of turbo lag.

The M4 is not a GT-R, but I wasn't expecting it to be. The M4 is much more comfortable as a road car. The GT-R has almost no sound insulation, extremely loud tire roar and the exhaust drones at speeds between 65 and 80. The GT-R's suspension also does not do much to soak up bumps.

For all those folks who have complained about tire noise, cabin noise or harsh rides in the M3/M4, just take a spin in a GT-R and you will forever be thrilled with the BMW.

Also, on a positive note, the BMW DCT is the best transmission I have ever experienced. It is faster and more responsive than the GT-R's and it makes the transmission in my wife's C63 look like a joke.

I am a bit spoiled by the GT-R's absolute grip both in straight line acceleration and in cornering. Thus, I'd like a bit more grip from the rear tires on the BMW. I'm hoping that we will find some aftermarket tire and perhaps wheel combination that will help, but this is a minor issue and only arises in the context of direct comparison to the GT-R.

Overall, I am very pleased with the M4. It is lots of fun as a daily driver.

Cheers,
Ira

Add me to the exceeds expectations list. It is so sneaky fast. I love the way it sounds as well.

I'm glad you requested owners opinions and not just those who test drove because I feel those are the ones nit-picking.

You'll notice the increased stiffness right off the bat coming from the E9x. You really need to drive over a few days and after the break-in to value the S55 and chassis.

I may only need 20 minutes or so. I'm doing the PDC delivery on Wednesday, and they've promised a broken-in M4 to beat on. I've purposefully not test drove one before the PDC delivery.

It's good to hear the positive feedback, especially since the expectations are very high.

awesome post. very valuable to compare the m3 to those two cars. ive never driven a gtr, but I have been on a couple hot laps on the track in a 2013 and HOLY SHIT that thing was unbelievably powerful coming out of corners with its crazy grip

Well then yes, PDC delivery will tell you everything you need to know quickly. I regret not doing that myself.

This car is different than any I've ever driven. But different in a good way.

+1 Definitely Exceeds expectations, but the HK is not as good as it was in the E92.

If you mean the E92 M3 it was not HK. It was a higher end individual unit from Lear Corporation in Germany, hence the $1900 price tag.

I really hope I will join the exceed expectations group in a little over a week. My expectations are low in relation to my former E90 M3.

I agree with keeping this to just owners not just ppl who test drive. But just as a heads up in theory you will get selection bias because those who test drove and didnt buy it probably didnt do so because it didnt exceed their expectations whereas those who did buy did so bc it did exceed expectations.

Still a worthwhile thread though and nice to see and hear from happy owners

Understood. I'm guessing many, if not most, are people who have been eyeing this thing for awhile and maybe ordered it a good while ago. I've thought that I'd be happy with a better looking and much faster version of my comp package E92 M3. We'll find out.

I had very high expectations to start with and it met them! I voted met expectations for that reason.
