AA Equal Length Midpipes with MPE videos
Just received the midpipes to day and immediately got them installed at buddy's shop (for free )
Setup: MPE AA EL Midpipes non-res Stock DPs My review: Install: I am not very experienced in installing exhausts so I might have gotten something wrong during the install. I'd like to first complain that there isn't a diy manual provided by AA and I couldn't find a lot of the torque specs online. We took off the entire exhaust (MPE + stock midpipes) first, mark the cutting lines and installed the exhaust in the order of the equal length part of the midpipes -> connecting pipes -> mpe muffler. Fitment was a bit of an issue during the install, the midpipes, due to the unique shape, were touching the metal shield underneath the car around the exhaust. A lot of wiggle around was applied to make them barely clear the metal shield. After the install, after I took the car for a drive and the exhaust got hot, I could sometimes hear some rattle under 3k rpm and I'm sure it's not my MPE because I have checked for any crack or leak. I might take the car to a shop later next week to check the fitment again. Sound: First of all, the volume is definitely louder in both efficient and sport mode. I'd say about 20% more. (I got pullover for exhaust noise right after I left the shop, in efficient mode. The cop was nice enough to let me go with just a warning, I don't think this is a future concern, it was 11:45pm and there seemed to be a large car meet nearby so I understand why he wanted to give me some trouble.) Second, the burbles are more apparent and aggressive even I'm running very mild burble settings (You will hear the pops and burbles in the video, im running something like 0.6 aggression in BM3). Third, the fun part, they work! At higher rpm the exhaust is much deeper than before, they turn this fart cannon into a proper I6 machine, no rasp at all at higher rpm except the lift-throttle fart and pops. However, at lower rpm I think there are still some familiar MPE signature rasp, exaggerated by the farts and pops. I might lower the aggression in BM3 more or just disable the burbles all together. It could be the fitment issue I talked about. I will update as soon as I figure this out. So here are the videos: We took a few videos with my camera + microphone. First one was taken in the shop. Startup, Rev in efficient first, and Rev in Sport at 0:20 Second one was taken on the highway. Sport mode, at one point revved to the redline. The last one was taken with windows down on highway. Nothing especial just a lot of wind noise. Enjoy and leave a comment and let me know what you think. —————————————————————————— Update 07/12/2020: We to the canyons and recorded a video of my car accelerating hard by a buddy People on ig said it sounds like stock MPE but it's not in reality according to friends, maybe it's because of the phone mic and speaker IMO there are still rasp no doubt, but I like the cleaness of the sound now. It sounds much more exotic at higher rpm compare to stock mpe, its actually not so embarrassed to pull hard now.

Thanks for the review! So even valves closed its 20% louder which caused you to get pulled over?

Yea valves were closed. Cop said that was the reason, i don't know exactly why because 20% louder than stock MPE in efficient isn't necessarily loud by any means

Sounds good, welcome to the club
One thing that I have noticed: Warm up the exhaust, cold start revs won't sound the same as when there's some heat in the pipes. It sounds a bit tinny (you can hear some rasp) if you let her rip even when the car idles for a few minutes. Drive it for a minute or so and it's much smoother.

Sounds like you're having some clearance issues, it took me a while to line stuff up as good as I could, it doesn't fit right.

So there are 3 MPE running around with the thing now!
I didn't have any fitment issue with my MPE. Just pushing up the shield here and there, putting washers between cross brace and chassis, and left exhaust tips almost touching the bumper which I will need to try readjust. |

Sorry the videos don't do justice. In person it sounds very different. Down low you can still recognize the MPE noise but up top it's completely different

There is a higher overtone that is sweet which comes audible at around 4k and then gets dominated by the lower tone again. Quite loud and raspy here. |

I HATE rasp but I hear nothing like what MyFragileHalogen posted in the first video. Maybe something is touching and causing resonance?

I agree. I drove the car for 30 miles today and I could feel added NVH and tinning noises. Something is rubbing/touching for sure
