Really surprised nobody's figured out Carplay turn-by-turn in the HUD

I guess the title is my comment, but also an open question.

Has anyone heard of, seen, or successfully implemented non-native (aka Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze) turn-by turn populating in the HUD and/ or dash?

Seems feasible.

Not even ID7 and ID8 allow that.

My 2020 X3 M40i shows Waze nav instructions in the HUD. I haven't tried Google Maps yet.

The G20 loaner I had with ID7 populated turn-by-turn instructions to the HUD. I don't believe they had intersection and lane mapping like the factory nav would give to the HUD, but I recall distances and which direction to turn being sent to the HUD. Similar to how my Ram was.

Nothing special, just started Waze and entered a destination... You might need to set up the HUD to show navigation directions but I don't remember for sure if I did that at some point or not.

You’re incorrect, my 2020 X3 with ID7 shows Apple Maps directions from CarPlay in both the cluster and the HUD.

ID8 even shows your CarPlay apps in the main apps menu outside of CarPlay.

Mark my words, someone software savvy like kubax86 is going to figure out how to make this happen and will make a mint off of chumps like me.

Another one to add to the list ... how to enable "M Tach" mode in non M cars.

I have got HUD nav directions turned on, yet when I set the destination via Waze, neither the instrument cluster nor the HUD show directions. 07/2020 ID7

That's weird; mine is a 09/2019 ID7. I'm using it via Android Auto, are you using CarPlay by any chance?

Yeah CarPlay Waze doesn’t show up in cluster/HUD, only Apple Maps.

If you use Apple Maps and you "Share" it to Idrive, does it still use your phone for traffic or does it basically use idrive and BMW navi? My BMW Navi subscription hasn't expired yet so I am not sure if I can just "share" my apple maps to my idrive and it'll use my phone for traffic.
