f80 ruined me for other cars

So I've always wanted a r35 for quite some time now, iam finally in the position to get one. But after this f80 the gtr feels cheap , tried a 2015 and he'll no the interior is a mix of 1998 grandam coupled with 2005 Toyota Carolla I just couldn't do it.
Then I tried the 3rd gen (eba) 2017 and up, its a improvement but it still feels so underwhelming , all the materials just lack 100k sports car touch. Just opening and closing the door screams low quality. Even my wife whos not a car girl was like why do you want to trade down to this??, her not knowing the potential of the gtr.

I can't say iam not still in the market for one but after 2 failed attempts due to both cars not being up to my standards for a low mileage example. I ve cooled off the search a bit and started asking myself if iam really going to be happy sitting in a gtr for years to come, iam never going to take it to 1k horse at most some bolt ons, a tune etc.
After 2 long test drives in a 2015 and 2017 gtr iam questioning my motivation to buy one, almost as if I now have to convince myself to still be on board.

Sure it's faster off the line and iam crazy over the body lines, but now iam kinda like is that all that it is stock for stock, I might be falling out of love for that car and keeping the f80.

I can echo these sentiments. I keep looking at other stuff like eh, and not much really excites me anymore. Short of a Lotus Emira, which i'm... sort of saving for there's just not much else that i'd want to buy.

I have my Cobra for an old school feeling muscle car and the F82 for a little bit of luxury and speed.

Problem with Emira is engine choice and not practical obviously

f80 is one of the best all rounders. i was struggling to find a replacement so i went with an m2c. which is pretty much the same but also different enough to feel like a separate car.

i owned a cba gtr as well. it has much more potential than the f80 platform thanks to awd. once you start tuning both cars it goes heavily in the GTRs favor because it puts down all 600+ hp in 1st and 2nd gear easily on mpss. its still a head turner too since it doesn't platform share like m3s do and is rare by comparison.

G80 front is gross but are fast. Keep your f80 bc I missed mine until I got my X3m. The f80 spoiled me too and set the bar high.

Check out a m5

Why do you want it? All cars get older. 'Fast' is relative. I'd still take a F40 even though its janky and not particularly fast now days. Buy something that makes you smile. If a r35 is not longer that, oh well.

I've never seen the appeal of a GTR honestly.

When it came out it had wild acceleration but nowadays, even though it's fast (in a straight line), it's not really that impressive considering how many straight line cars are on the market and within reach.

Car weighs way too much, steering is completely lifeless, extremely one dimensional in performance and the interior/exterior is definitely not for me - so I 100% understand how the R35 would feel like a downgrade to an F8X. They're on different ends of the car enthusiast spectrum.

They're perfect for Tesla guys that want flamethrower tunes.

Same. I haven't seen any appeal in the GT-R since about 2012, and I've driven several across the generations, stock and mildly modified.

I think the GTR is still the same thing it was when it was a brand new model. Quick in a straight line with tons of tuning potential. There was a GTR that did 1.95 60-130 at the recent TX2K3 event. 1.95 60-130 was just insane acceleration.

All your criticisms of the car remain as well (at least IMO).

And you have to look at the fact that people are asking top covid dollars for their used cars. Hell, the eba is being sought for sticker value as old as 2017 models smh

The M3 is just hard to beat as a car.

Some of its attributes:
comfortable enough for cross country drives
luxurious
large enough to pick up your inlaws from the airport
is fast out of the box
has a great chassis
easily trackable
easily daily-driveable
good performance
huge aftermarket and enthusiast/DIY support

Yup I know the pricing is still sky high. Iam definitely waiting it out, will see in 5 to 6 months if it's still desirable to me and if the prices come down even more,, they have been falling for the past 2 months.

Not sure what car I would want in my price range other than the gtr, I could go new g80 but its just not appealing to me nor the m5 would rather keep what I have. If I went porsche only car would be the 911 turbo s but outta my price point.

It's a shame that the gtr didn't check all the boxes I thought it would have. I can't believe iam saying it but on that hr long test drive it just feels like I was driving a normal shit box with this fancy shell of a exotic wrapped around it , so much so that you forget that your driving a supposed 100k race car.

A vette pulled up next to me half way thru this test drive, for a split second I was like why does he wanna race. That's because on normal driving conditions you fell like your in a run of the mill nissan, I don't think it should be like that.

It almost pains me to say it,, 6 of years that was a goal car now idk

Dam you bmw
dam you

This is a very good point as well. I'm a lucky boy and get to drive a ton of exotic and sports cars, but I still find myself yearning for the feeling that my old E46 M3 gave me. It's just such a total package, it makes it easy to understand why M3 is such a famous name in the auto world.

Buy a $ 100k R34
At least the interior is supposed to be crappy 🤣
And it'll turn far more heads than both the R35/F80

Pretty much in the ballpark of what I was going to say. Name another modern car you can pick up on the used market under 60k that’ll do 120 effortlessly, 120 around a corner effortlessly, and luxurious enough to take your family out in. Do all of that while staying pretty lowkey on the road as it’s just another commuter bmw to the average eye. Not to mention less than a grand of bolt ons transform the car…

As a previous F80 owner I couldn't agree more with this thread. Recently traded my F80 comp for a 2020 M550. F80 didn't have the lane assist, adaptive cruise etc. features that I wanted for frequent road trips. I like the M550, it's definitely more refined and has the ability to transform into beast with a few setting adjustments but it definitely doesn't provoke the excitement I enjoyed when all F80 settings were in Sport +. F80 was first performance car I've owned that wasn't manual... I loved the DCT. M550 def doesn't shift as quickly or confidently as the DCT.
