CarPlay Upgrade Success!

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this, but I recently had kubax86 (@kubax86) upgrade my 2016 M4's CarPlay from V4 to V6. Everything works as if it were OEM; it took about an hour. If you, as I was, are curious as to whether it "works" or not, I'll vouch that the guys at https://bimmer-remote.com/ knocked it out of the park.

Thanks for that - need to decide if it's worth it to replace the entire unit - I guess I need to figure out how much long I'm gonna keep the car....

Couldnt you just get an MMI box instead of replacing the entire unit?

That would be a hell of a lot cheaper than getting a new head unit!

I would keep the oem screen. It's better than any Chinese screen

For folks who have successfully upgraded to ID6, have you noticed any problems? I read in another thread about the OEM navigation crashing with route guidance. While I would love to have full screen CarPlay, I'd rather not have to deal with other issues.

Also, for the flash process, what do folks use to maintain power? I believe a battery tender/charger will not be able to provide the needed voltage for the flash.

I can only speak for myself, but my install turned out absolutely perfect. You'd never know it wasn't OEM. WRT navigation, I only used the factory NAV once because I generally use Waze via Carplay. But that worked fine the one time I used it.

I just connected a trickle charger to the battery and that worked fine for my install.

Thanks for the additional feedback. Glad to hear that you haven’t experienced any issues.

For the power supply, I did a bit of research and will most likely pick up a CTEK Multi US 25000 that can supply 12V/25A. Just want to be safe and avoid battery drain during the flash. I recently had Kubax86 do the GTS flash, but that was only 15-20 mins. The ID6/CarPlay flash looks like it will take up to an hour.
