Why would BMW enter F1 when they're only half serious at best about making sports cars?

6MT, aluminum trim and cloth! Hot damn this was the combo I wanted back in the E46 days!

That matches very well, I've just never seen that in any other F8X.

The Aluminum trim is what we got standard in Canada, so it is quite more common up here. We had to pay $500 to get the CF or wood trims whereas the US got the CF trim standard. I believe the Alu trim was also an option in the EU, so folks needed to choose between CF, wood or Alu when upgrading from the base trim.

I'm still not fond of it. My student at the last HPDE event I attended was driving a G80. While I did not drive the car, I still got to experience it on track from the passenger seat. First of, the S58 does not sound any better than the S55 but has louder pops and burbles. It pulls very solidly with impressive acceleration though. The 8AT is quite dissapointing, where you really feel the power reduction on upshifts and I find it has too many closely spaced ratios for our track. The chassis has excellent dynamics but you do feel the heft. The car had the regular seats, which simply do not offer adequate support for track driving (much less support than the F8x seats), for those than plan to head to the track, the CF buckets are a must. Overall it’s a solid performer, but I am still only lukewarm to it.

Just to be totally fair, I am impressed with the numbers it gets. From that perspective it looks like it may be the top dog in its segment again. That was pleasant to see.

The looks, well - it doesn't look different/better in person and it doesn't "grow on you". It is what it is whether you like it or not. Personally, nothing's ever "grown on me" visually - that concept doesn't exist for me, either I like it when I see it or I don't. And I'm not convinced the concept exists for anyone else either…maybe it's more "talking myself into it" and not "growing on me"

I'm neutral on the mixed reviews it gets from enthusiasts. Tbh the things that people don't like on theG8x already existed on the F8x so it's a moot point

Hell no. My opinion of it hasn't changed - it still looks ugly but performs fine.

I specifically ordered my F82 because of how horrible the G80/G82 looks!

Nope. In fact as others have said I have more issues with it than I did to start. I think I hate the top of the bumper and the hood even more than the grilles. The rear end needs chemo for that prostate issue.

I for one love it, I can't get over how gorgeous it is, and Dukec is a genius who we should be thanking for saving our beloved brand and restoring it to glory! Anyone who hates it must be a jealous F8X fanboy and can't get over the fact that we can simply beat them from a stoplight drag race now.

Oh, wait, this isn't the G8X forums that mods heavily look over? In that case, I still hate it

You forgot that we are haters because we are broke and can’t afford the greatest M3/4 of all time.
How dare we resist the pig nose grill, the shiny black underbody trim, lack of Hoffmeister kink, fake vents, ZF Auto with 8speeds over the jerky DCT, and most of all that amazing Charger grill?!

Edit: forgot the amazing Digital gauges compared to the ancient analog ones

What’s funny is the majority of people I’ve seen driving G8X on the road or at car meets are that exact stereotype of person that some of G8X contributors are trying to paint current F8X owners as. In contrast a lot of the newer F8X owners I’ve met have been people who are extremely enthusiastic, hungry for knowledge, and generally well put together… not all obviously, but more than enough to debunk this unspoken stereotype that G8Xers use as a gaslight

yeah the design hasn't grown on me at all. i just checked the g80 photo thread thinking that 'hey maybe it'll look better lowered with wheels etc"

nope. every part of the exterior design seems like a step back from the f80.

It's funny really.

As these cars become more affordable enthusiasts who otherwise don't have too much money can easier get access to the car and they're usually someone who care more for the car and the scene in general with great passion and are usually very level headed people and not someone trying to show off all the time as opposed to the people who don't really care and just want to show off their moneybag with the new and shiny and does obnoxious shit while constantly talking down everyone else.

Of course there are exceptions to every rule, but this is what I have found.

Is it just me or do these guys think they have more leverage than they do?

In briefings with the British press, senior executives for both BMW and Mercedes have foreshadowed plans to keep supply of new vehicles tight so they can maximise profits and maintain higher prices.

“We will consciously undersupply demand levels … at the same time we [will] shift gears towards the higher, the luxury end," Harald Wilhelm, Mercedes-Benz’s Chief Financial Officer, told the UK's Financial Times.

Nicolas Peter, Chief Financial Officer at BMW, said: “[We have] seen a significant improvement in pricing power in the last 24 months … [the plan is to maintain] the way we manage supply to maintain our pricing power on today’s level.”
Cause I"ll buy a K/H or a Tesla or whatever.

It's one thing to cut out the dealership and sell at MSRP - I'd be ok with that.

It's another to pull a Rolex and intentionally undersupply the market as a way to raise prices ... especially at the dawn of WFH, self-driving cars, Amazon Prime, and Lyft.

Maybe Porsche can get away with this, but I can't see BMW playing this game. Maaayyybe Benz for some models, but instead I think they'll just kill their brands as people switch over to the Koreans, Chinese, and Tesla.
