oil only leaks if you have too much oil inside...

the oil level sensor is tricky even the one in the f3/8x where you have to be stationary on a flat plane

rod bearing problems minimal compared to hpfp, clogged injectors and vanos bolt issues with any of the newer turbo engines

s63 is having heat warp issues was told by bmw service to avoid this engine out of warranty

You like your neighbors, Parky? I don't like mine And the spouse says I can't be mean, cause then he has to take the kids to parks to play.

I still don't understand why a car should be loud, purr, nice, low, not loud purr would be best.

Okay, last was a lie.

I live right next to three schools, one of which likes to use my street as a cut-thru, so this is key for me as well

I'm already waiting to make the school runs in this, all the other mums drive white Prius's and I do want to avoid the social scene here. As for the sound, my music collection usually is making sure no one can claim they didn't hear me coming.

Yeah, they tend to be awake in the most unusual hours, such as mornings at sun rise. Oh well Parky, we will manage with anything. As long as Elsa is happy, and I avoid walking to a Prius by accident because I couldn't tell the difference in the sounds.

Please don't get all upset with me. These are just thoughts and odds are I will still change the exhaust on my car in spite of what I just wrote....old habits and beliefs die hard.
Good post. However, modification of the exhaust does not only alter exterior acoustics but both interior and exterior. Of course when one really want to enjoy exhaust acoustics, it's tunnel, windows down and redline, pure bliss in an M3 with a good cat back exhaust. I get your point though, there is an element of ostentatiousness with an exhaust mod.

unless exhaust systems are much cheaper this time around (i.e. not $2,500+), I'm not dropping the coin. reason is simple - I'm not interested in this car for the sound.

on the e90, an aftermarket exhaust took an amazing sounding motor and made it sound even more orgasmic. well-worth the $2-3k price of admission to showcase how special the S65 V8 was.

on the F80, even with an aftermarket exhaust it still won't sound great (I mean truly great... it will certainly sound good). to me, the stock exhaust will be good enough. I'll put the cash toward more track days.

Straight LOL right there... comparing potentially catastrophic internal damage to worn out accessories / maintenance items.

Why would it not? It's a near identical engine configuration with a slightly different exhaust.

think the sound is very good for a turbo - as he already wrote that one engines with and without turbo can not compare.

Lets just admit right now the car sounds like crap. The good news is, as other manufacturers turbo their cars, they'll all sound like crap. Turn your head away from the screen, stop looking at the pretty car, the roundel, and just listen... Tell me, honestly, you like what you are hearing (liar!).

Everyone so focused on this, but BMW will put some fake noise in the car to make it sound nice so you'll be none the wiser.

People who don't like turbos haven't heard a similar sound in a different setting. The shriek is always good.

Sorry, I'm out of coffee again.

I'd be tempted to remove the valves for 100% non-restriction always or MPE. I foresee a lot of hack jobs on this exhaust right off the bat.

It's too late to read the whole thread now, but all that BMW blah blah blah, and they forget to mention it uses speakers inside the car for the exhaust sound???

At least the drive by and acceleration runs are decent. First coding mod is DELETE COLD START!!!
