"Is that your Maserati?"

The other day I pulled in to the gym at the same time as a Maserati Ghibli. I go in and start my workout and a few minutes later a huge brotha comes up to me and asks a question. I pull off my headphones and and hear him as he repeats, "Is that your Maserati?" I shake my head and let him know that it's not but feeling like I let him down I tell him the AY M3 parked across from it is mine. Completely unimpressed he responds, "Oh ok, I thought the Maserati was yours, it's a sweet ride!" I nod in agreement and put on my headphones, back into the percussive bass laden beats. I chuckled to myself as I briefly considered the Ghibli until I read some initial reviews and learned that it shares the same infotainment system as a a Dodge Dart! Anyhow, not hating on the Ghibli, it's an expensive car clearly not targeted at M3 buyers but just found the guy's reaction funny. Any similar stories out there?

Ha a ghibli. You can lease one of those for less than an M3. I find in my area that most people who drive those are the "jersey shore" type who want to walk around the club with maserati keys in their hand hoping to impress snooksters

The Maserati name still carries some clout. I think most "car guys" know the Ghibli isn't the best car in the world but if you're not in to cars, you just think it's a fancy Italian exotic.

The Ghibli seems to me to be the unfortunate product of materialism and name brand recognition. That being said I've never driven one and a few that I've heard before sound great. But I can't stand those people who drive things just for the name. What can you do...merely a car enthusiast's issue

Upon sitting in the Ermenegildo Zegna line, I was impressed with the level of attention to detail the vehicle had on its interior. I felt like I was sitting in a suit, or maybe, in a vehicle that was an extension of my suit. After test-drive, I really liked the handling in sense that it "stuck on rails" and the steering was responsive; and, specifically, the exhaust note was quite impressive. But beyond those aspects, M's are far superior.

The Levante...on the other hand...looks really nice.

The Ghibli sounds like Sex. Pretty much everything else sucks.

The M3 sounds like a nitrous fart can running on pressurized burrito extract. Pretty much everything else is sex.

The Ghibli exists to impress people that don't know much about cars.

Same could be said for the 3 series or Ghibli equivalent of Masi.

I considered it for a short time. I was even given a 24hr test drive. I could not get past the shared parts with my Ram truck. Too much of it was the same. Not to mention much of it was so cheap to the touch. It is great to look at, not so much to own and drive.

It was the most disappointing car from my initial expectations to final observations I've ever experienced in my entire life.

Maserati as a whole is hugely overrated, any one of their cars is behind a similar competitor model

A very good friend used to be a GM at BMW, had a falling out, and landed with Maserati. Begged me to get into a Ghibli at a very low price. I test drove one for a weekend, hated everything about it, and returned it telling him it just wasn't the right image for me.

The truth is, you couldn't GIVE me one of those things.

It's funny because at my gym, there are at least 4 Ghiblis in the parking lot.. they were practically giving them away not too long ago. I'm buddies with the owner of one; it looks nice but he hates driving it.

Were you the only 2 people in the gym? Why would he presume it was your Maserati?

Some lady at work has one. It looks okay. My friend was asking me how much they cost and looking in the window. I agree, impressive to non-car people.

This. My business partner got one recently. He's Not really a car guy. It sounds good but everything else about it really sucks. I don't have the heart to tell him that though. I'm just like cool exhaust sounds man.
